That's pretty much the reason for the Man Eater's killing spree. Not a very good reason ,but a reason nonetheless.

Question response:

Neither. That includes the man eater. The monsters have no sexual organs. They are all gender neutral. Only the land creature reproduces and it reproduces asexually.
But the monsters can choose a gender for themselves if they want to (even though they are not biologically like that…)
