Question response:
Kikaru: "Do the humans understand what he's saying, or are they just freaked out that Maneater's not dying?"
Saturno is the one telling the story and currently can't hear, so it is uncertain if the Man Eater is talking to the humans or not. From the author's standpoint the Man Eater is directing the dialogue to Saturno thus not talking to the humans. Hope that clears it up for ya.
