If it wasn't already confusing that we were seeing into the mind of a bird relaying a memory, we are now seeing a memory within a memory as Himura recounts the search for Katsumi's body. We don't see Himura, but what he saw: a Mage healer (one of very few missionaries who came to help) and two of the other survivors, Sen and Rin Maya, in the aftermath of the battle at Ran-Reddak. You'll get to see them in action later in this chapter and in subsequent story lines.
This marks the first real page with a Mage on it! It's pretty exciting. She's even doing magic, albeit rather blurred, greyscale, and lame! I hope I'll get better at creating good special effects for magic casting. I really like the contrast between the two cultures here. Even though they have a shared past, shared ancestors, and maybe even a bit of shared ability, they diverged philosophically, and that has lead to some interesting physical and cultural differences.
