[394] Twilight: Kept Down

So Aussie's been captured, the Wizard seems powerless and every one who could do something is dead from the Anti_kid army's rampage. What sort of deus ex machina am I going to pull out of my arse this time?

I've been thinking about how in hollywood movies, there's usually this part where a loved one of the main character is captured and there's a demand that involves letting the hostage/s go as long as a doomsday weapon/special code/whatever is delivered. In these parts, the people who don't want to risk the world are always depicted as being heartless and cruel.

I wonder, why are such selfish actions depicted as pure and good natured? Who cares about the fact that millions of people could die as long as the hero gets his girl/kid/whatever. Millions of lives are risked just so one can be spared. And the people in the movie who know this, who are thinking logically, are always shown as not giving a damn.

- (Chronicles of Riddick) Riddick goes after Kyra and has the chance to take down the entire necromunger army. Instead, he just looks for her, taking down only those who could stop him from reaching her and does offer to just leave with her.
- (Matrix Reloaded) Neo has the chance to destroy the Matrix, but Trinity would die. He goes and saves Trinity.
- (Raiders of the Lost Ark) Indiana threatens to blow up the ark, 'All I want is the girl'
- (Attack of the Clones) Anakin tries to stop the pursuit on Count Dukoo, but Obi-Wan talks him out of it

There are more, but I haven't got time.

Until next time
The Aussie Kid
