Fatima's people - the Phernians - are classified as terran aquasapians; they are homo-sapiens modified by magi-science to survive in water environments. Phernians were created by the Mer of Atlantis… back in the 14th century they were originally shipwrecked Arabic sailors and passengers abducted by the Mer and transformed into half-human/half-octopus cephalomen and cephalomaids for use as work-slaves of the Mer. Around the 18th century the Phernians revolted and left Atlantis to start their own underwater kingdom of Phernos. Fatima's name derives from that Arabic heritage.
