Buying the Stairway to Heaven 21

Back at the time I started drawing this whole sequence it occurred to me that in order for this moment to work… for the room to be plunged into utter darkness… I needed to ensure no outside light could get in (as you'll recall it was day outside) which was the main reason I introduced the pop up steel emergency shutters. Yes, they had the added benefit of keeping other do-gooders at bay for the proceedings but their main purpose narratively was to ensure darkness for this moment. Ta-dah!
