Stark normally doesn't have any issues talking to the press, but given the whole "I am Iron Man" and goading The Mandarin, I think he's being smart here.And this is kind of a variation on my weird obsession with the "Take away the armor and what are you?" joke that I've made here and there after The Avengers came out.
