The germ of this idea was a depressed little robot who was making his report back to his home planet (not unlike Mork at the end of every episode), and the backstory I came up with was that he (/it/whatever) was living with this married couple, because he'd been assigned to observe human relationships. The joke was that, in his reports, he only ever referred to the wife as, "the cunt," because he'd never heard her referred to in any other way. From humble beginnings, right?
