PhilWrede onDrawing the dog was as tough as anything I had to do in this little story. I probably spent at least as much time looking for the right photo reference on the Internet as I did drawing. But, I do like the way his face turned out in the first and third panels.
This page was kind of essential, I thought, to staving off the bleakness that otherwise would've enveloped the story. To bring things back to Star Trek again, Gene Roddenberry's work has had a profound effect on me, both in the fascination with the possibility of otherworldly life, and in the hope that things will, eventually, improve. That there's a silver lining. XX1's relationship with Hugo, obviously, became that silver lining.
