Face Shadow

I'm updating again, because I'm trying to get the new Engine page done, and I can't ink it up, until I first finish this panel for this segment…..It shouldn't take long from here on.

This is where I did some shading on Jinn's face. The pencils didn't really indicate how to go about it, so this is what I did. In my opinion, Nice cross-hatching has more character than flat blacks. There is a time and a place for flat blacks, but after studying R. Crumb, and Arthur Adams sketchbooks, I've grown to love the art of fine crosshatching. I still love solid blacks as well, so i try to merge them together whenever I can.
On Jinn's face, I took a rapidiograph, and began crosshatching, until I ended up with a nice, dark pattern. I then took a brush, and feathered Thin to thick lines into the dark part of the hatch work, blending them together. Flat blacks would work, but just not have as much character, in my opinion.
A few more blacks here and there to help balance the panel, and we are on to the finishing stuff….the harness belt, and the background.
