Filler: Boetheri Scout

Honestly, I really didn't want to show any pictures of these guys until they appeared in the comic, but I drew this…and it looked good…and I like showing off…so there you have it XD

A boetheri scout. Many of the scouts are female simply because little can move as quickly as female boetheri. (Though they certainly aren't all female) Their primary function is to serve as lookouts and prevent intruders of getting too close - or warn the actual soldiers of an enemy's approach.
The weapon she's carrying, you may recognize from the pictures of Tai-ra I've drawn (This is not Tai-ra. I know her hair's similar, but that's not intentional). It's one of a few boetheri weapons I've designed, and this is one that tends to be carried by the scouts due to it being a small, light, fast weapon.
The blades on her arm braces are important as well. Though we haven't seen it much yet in the comic, boetheri can - and often do - run on all fours. It's much faster, and offers much more control - which is why their hands are often padded as well as their feet. So the blades on the arms are there to serve as a weapon for a boetheri running on all fours. They allow one to attack without having to waste time standing and drawing a weapon. Not really intended for full combat, but they can give a necessary edge should push come to shove.
The mask was originally designed to relate to spirits, and give the wearer that spirit's power. In current time however that tradition has been somewhat forgotten, and the masks serve more to frighten intruders than for any mystical reason. After all, why fight when you can scare them off?

It's not the best drawing in the world…the proportions are a bit off…I drew it with a ball-point! XD It'd been a while since I'd drawn with cheap, crappy pens like that and I felt the urge. But I rather liked the design, and it gave me an excuse to talk about some of this stuff that's been stewing in my brain for months, so thar y'are. XD Hope you enjoyed!
