Second of my symbolic character covers. This time for Jaith. I wanted to draw this picture of him for a while now, even though a mask really doesn't suit him. (He's the last character I would accuse of masking anything. He wears his heart right out on his sleeve.)
The real point of the mask is that it's modeled after the character masks for the "Comedia Del Arte" plays of Italy. Basically, each of these plays would feature the same stock set of characters, the actors wore masks so that each character could be easily identified. I don't think I'll say just yet which character I was thinking of for Jaith (It partially fits him, partially doesn't, but I like the idea) but I will say this much. The longer the nose of the mask on a character, the more foolish that character would be. Jaith's character type, therefore, is somewhat in between. Not brilliant. But not a fool either. Though he may act like one from time to time. XD

I would like to add, however, that when I was researching medieval symbolisms for making these covers, I came across something interesting. Apparently, it was common symbolism back then that when a character was blinded in one eye, they were being shown to be a traitor. Let me assure you that this is NOT the case with Jaith (Yes, that eye is damaged beyond repair, that's why it's hidden here - in retrospect he should have a scar on his left shoulder too, none of the other wounds in sight were deep enough to be seen through the fur XD) Trechery is the furthest thing from Jaith's mind at all times. Let me assure you, while nothing else in this comic is certain, Jaith is EXACTLY what he appears to be. SO while that was common symbolism at one time, I didn't know about it, and did not use it intentionally XD (Not that I really think you all worried, I just found it really interesting.)

Also, if you're curious about the last cover at all (The Tarot card cover) I posted the meanings of the cards depicted there In my live journal. Make of them what you will. ;)

Thanks for reading! See you next week!
