It's a helmet! It's made many cameos before this, first notable one is not a webcomic though. One of my little alien characters wore it when he went rollerskating. He makes a brief cameo in CTV, but not wearing the helmet at the time. Someone said it looks like Commander Keen's helmet…I was more of a console gamer than a PC gamer, so I had no idea who that was, sadly. It seems his helmet is actually yellow, but the pattern is indeed similar. It happens!
