Amelius
on

Okay dokay, so a few of youse weren't certain of the punchline on the last page so allow me to egg-splain!

The last line can be taken any of three ways perhaps based on your own philosophies or interpretations. I know that makes it sound all deep but it really isn't ^_^
1. The "fourth wall break approach", even though not intentional (UIU has broken it on occasion though) Amelius could be asking this question of the author but directing this question to the audience, whom she can see as teaching her a "lesson" the way Bugs Bunny torments Daffy Duck in the cartoon "Duck Amuck".
The teacher being me of course, "testing" the limits of my character's patience and ability!
2. The spiritual approach, where she could be appealing to a higher being than herself and asking why Fernando has to be so darn naive! (this time, it's not the author, haha!)
3. Straight up the thing I did intend, she's thinking to herself that life is testing her by lobbing obstacles in her path in the form of Nando's constant naivety and fragile emotions. Fernando is often letting things get the emotional better of him, and he runs to Amelius to fix it for him. Therefore these are "tests" of her patience, their friendship/relationship, her ability to help Fernando etcetera… The "teacher" in this case is life itself.
Plus, when you have a friend that can go at your brains at the drop of a hat, the emotional instability isn't something you want to deal with either, especially if a sobbing hug can suddenly turn into a deadly grip so he can chew your noggin!

I'll keep this in mind as a lesson learned however, perhaps I should work on better allegories!
