Purring is an interesting mechanism with which cats communicate. Mother cats and their kittens purr during nursing, and cats purr when they feel safe and content. Cats also purr when they are in pain, dying, or tense/scared. One suggestion is that the purr means "I am not a threat." Another thought is that cats do this to calm and reassure themselves. Like when you're hurt, you might repeat a mantra of "Everything will be fine. I'm okay…."

Peipei: Some people hurt animals for really no reason at all. It can be especially rough in a city (though country critters get abused too), which is part of the reason Jiro is an "indoor cat."

Jess: Mrow? At least his friends are back now.
