The speed would be exactly the same since you're only moving the connection wire from your computer to your Wii. It will still be the same : )

They're a little behind when it comes to online play. But I'm sure that'll change once Metroid Prime 3, SSBB and Mario Galaxy come out… That is if they have online play.
