I haven't heard anything from dirtyhippie777. I am going to send an email to check and pass it on if needed.

damn it! i'll make the remaining 3 panels if necessary. 3 stupid panels can't take anyone more than hour and a half. what's wrong with these people? i can't wait any longer. there are so many lazy inept people around. the worst of all, they'll come up with some stupid excuse like "my mom's head fell off" and they'll be forgiven while the responsible people wait unfairly. drop-offs should be banned from taking part in another fusion session for 3 opprotunities in a row as punishment.

I understand your impatience. Tantz had her house broken into and has asked for more time. That may sound like an excuse, but she's been a faithful and hard-working participant.

I prefer not to punish people for having real life issues.

Well, Tyra, honestly I wish it was just impatience, but it's also unjustice and disrespect. Not just towards me, but towards all the members that have responsibly submitted their panels punctually.
Again we're letting someone have their way with an excuse. Excuses shouldn't be tolerated, period. For a simple reason: they're impossible to control and to prove true. Anyone can just come up with literally any excuse any infinite number of times. Rules were originally made to avoid this kind of discrpepancies:
rule #2 clearly states:
"You have three days to complete your panel. If you can't finish within 3 days, you will be moved to the end of the list".
It doesn't say: oh, but of course, you'll be forgiven if you can come up with a good enough excuse. Plus there's no possible way to tell a good excuse from a cheap one, or a real one from a made up one? under what standards? With all due respect, Rules were made not to have to go through those dilemmas, in the first place.
I'm deeply sorry for Tanz broken-in home, but even if this sad event is true, I don't think the culprit is among the fusion members.

I dunno - I feel that life comes first (especially if comicking isn't your full-time job). Tantz is very involved with DD projects, and I think that a little leeway is deserved if she needs it. It's a little sad that we have to wait to see the finished product, but hey - things come at us from all directions that we can't control, and I don't feel that we should be punished for them. Zero, I completely understand where you're coming from, but hang in there a little longer. ^.~ I think this Fusion is going to be good fun and worth the wait.

Sorry if I'm acting like a jerk. I hate jerks and I'd hate to become one. Life comes first alright. I agree, and everybody has all the right in the world to have some personal issues. But if you do? why would you pull a whole group of people down with you? what kind of selfish person would want to slow a whole group's work down instead of just quitting to let them get done finally? if you sacrifice for the group, is real sacrifice. Letting a group of people sacrifice for you is selfishness.
And because life comes first, people having personal issues, should simply quit comicking until they get them fixed.

It's also about a rule that nobody respects anymore and has become obsolte. Either we should obey it or remove it. I mean, just take a look at the numbers. The first fusion XX panel was submitted the 9th of January. We're on the 26th of April already and we can count only 12 panels done. We should have had those panels made in a period of 36 days tops. But approximately 110 days have passed by since the first panel was submitted. We should be having 3 times as much as the number of panels we have. I might sound fussy to some but I consider my demands to be reasonable.
In the worst of cases, consider this just a little number to have some amusement till we get things running again.

Zero, I understand your perspective but I also know Tantz personally. She suffered not one, but two break-ins, within a very short period of time. I know you're not trying to be a jerk.

Surely there's a procedure in place (or someone could make one up) to move on to the next person's page if a real life crisis occurs for the latest person which prevents them from finishing their page in a timely manner (or at all).

Tantz is a hard worker and she should not be looked on the same as someone who has no good excuse.

Maybe I'm out of line for posting this when I don't participate in DD Fusion, but I thought maybe I could provide some perspective. I respect all of the artists here and I'm not looking for a fight or anything.

You're making it it sound like it's something personal. I didn't even mention Tanz until you did. Read above. It's nothing against her personally. I'm really sorry for what happened to her and her home. I wouldn't desire that to anyone. This is sad and uncommon exception. I admit, and we can all be a little patient for her. It's she happened to be the next on the list, but this rediculously long wait has been happening all along. After all, you're right, it's just a comic, it's just to have fun. But what happened? it took us 110 days to have 12 panels done! only 12 panels. what kind of fun is that anyway? That's my point, it's not about miss Tanz, and I don't wanna hear her name again. It's about either we're surrounded by lazy artists or we're too permissive. I mean, we should be having 110 pages by now, not 12 panels. Because, don't tell me that the previous 11 people had their homes broken-in too, or something as bad as that happened to every single one of them. It could also happen that many of the artists that integrated the list aren't even part of the community anymore, cause the wait was so long, tha chances are that someone drops out.
Anyway, I'm just causing all this fuss because I'm a little bored. I'm not really into it. Anyway, I think I have some valid points up there.

Well, I started to type a reply in word so I could spell check it, as I am really bad at all those pesky word things. Then it got to a page long and I realized it was turning into a rant. As we don’t really need that sort of thing here I cut it down to my key points.

Most of us don’t draw or write for a living. Eating and having a safe place to sleep kinda comes before drawing some times. Not everyone checks their email on a daily basis. Because this is not on an exact time line people have a little trouble planning life around it. Most of us have our own comic we could be working on instead. There is no deadline to finish by. And perhaps the most important one of all… This is just a fun little side project, side projects loose out to pretty much everything else when competing for time. Meant to be fun, not a source of anxiety.

Besides, Tyrapendragon has said in the past that people just have to ask for a little extra time to get it, because this is supposed to be fun. Not on time. If it was meant to be on time there would probably be a little are we on time sort of counter some where. We would be able to say, hey, your panel is done, come back on this date to see the whole thing. But I am starting to fall back into making this too long. So I will stop here.

Relax, good things are worth waiting for, and all that jazz.

Fusion doesn't seem to be the kind of activity for people who don't have a decently frequent access to the internet. Once a day at least. I don't even have to be saying this. DrunkDuck is an online commmunity. If a rule says: "you have 3 days to submit your panel", you gotta have the chance to check your mail with certain regularity so you have time to draw and submit your panel on time, or not sign up at all. Why would you sign up if you might not even meet the requirements? You don't sign up because there's a low probability that your times might coincide. That's sheer irresponsability.
You have other responsabilities? a life? another comic? easy, don't sign up. It's not mandatory, but if you do, be responsible. Not too much to ask.

And of course there's a deadline. Reread the rules, please.

Besides, Tyrapendragon has said in the past that people just have to ask for a little extra time to get it

Yes, and that's very nice of her. It's alright when in an emergency exceptional case someone asks her for some extra time, it could happen to anyone. That's understandable. In an exceptional case, but when every single member abuses her kindness, it all gets crappy a not fun anymore.
And as you say people SHOULD at least ask her for that extra time. But that, doesn't even happen. Poor Tyra has to go after the artists, because they never ask for the extra time. They simply disappear for ages without leaving a single trace. It's Tyra who alwyas has to be emailing them to see what happened. If it at least it was the people writing to Tyra to ask for the extra time, but that seldom happens in practice. In that sense, I'm deeply sorry for her.
If it wasn't based on a time limit it would be chaotic, believe me. Anyone would go on holiday for ages at anytime without having to tell anyone, come back, take another indeterminate amount of time, which could literally be "forever". Considering how artists work under a deadline policy, I don't even wanna imagine how they would behave without a deadline.

people with real lives (i.e. not me) shouldn't care if they are dropped out of a fun side project like this so I don't see a problem with skipping over them if needed.

this guys rants are completely valid

besides it's something to do in the meantime. Though I suppose there's always a friendly game of word association…

I couldn't agree more Rudolf. If people with real lives' priorities are other than the community, why should they care if they're skipped over? They couldn't care less. And thus they wouldn't spoil the fun of those who don't have real lives (i.e. me and you).

I don't mind reminding/asking people to do their panel, but it can be a bit tiring sometimes. I see your point about three days, and I have to debate with myself on how strict to be. At this point I haven't heard anything from Tanz, so I'm going to move her down the list and send it to the next person. I will ask her if she still wants to do one. If not, we'll go with 14 panels.

Thanks.

I haven't heard anything from Stolen Time. I'm going to send an e-mail today. I know that MagickLorelai has been busy and I haven't gotten any update from Tantz. Do we have a volunteer to do the final panel if none of them can do it?

Thanks.
