er, ok, I'm slightly interested. I've never played D&D before, though. Can someone explain the rules? (I don't like lookin' through lengthy rulebooks, I usually figure out the rules as I go along…)

fairly simple premise really. You just create a character with predetermined abilities.
Then a storyteller (the DM) guides you through an adventure and you use a dice to determine chance outcomes, like combat or magic.
