/I'm confused. Its almost like real comic stuff is on a webcomic site. I saw some kind of witchblade ad on the front pages plug box and did a double take "surely some moron isn't stupid enough to post scans of comics on here, and if they are why the fuck would the admins be stupid enough to promote such blatent copyright infringement?" not that big a deal, as I don't really care. I'm just interested in how I missed it before.
According to the wikipedia article, which is a whole other thing entirely, DD has literally sold out. I'm interested as to how and when and what type of person would even want DD? The article provides almost no information on the selling out, and I told BK I would fix up the wiki to comply with the standards of whatever it is standards comply to.
Start publishing on
DD Comics!
so we completely sold out or what?
I'm not entirely sure about the whole story, but I think there was something inone or two of Volte6's old news posts. In fact I know there is. And I think there was some info on the main site for Platinum too.
Maybe there's even info in one of the faqs? Are there faqs?
It all happened in a month while I was away. :(
Basically DD went pro. Now we have published, printed comics coming to DD from all over the place, as well as our usual lovely webcomics. Platinum promotes and shows new comics here, there's more adds, better site design etc. Volte6 has more incentive to make new additions and improvements to his baby now. :)
Appart from that it's all mostly the same I think.
But maybe none of that's true? It's just my perception.
Platinum is a company.
It owns DD.
As any company that respects itself, it promotes it's products in almost everything it owns or is related to.
They have every right to plug their stuff on the site as long as they don't ruin the wonderful community that we have.
And so far, i haven't seen any signs of it happening.
If anything there has been an improvement.
Actually, i feel motivated to improve so i can be at the level of the stuff being posted.
I'd rather have this than pop-up ads, or constantly being bugged for donations by the staff. I don't really mind the occasional ad, if it means I don't have to pay to use the site. DD offers very professional service for free, so I can't really begrudge them occasionally plugging commercial comics.
Actually, even the advertising has gotten better. Before the buyout was made public, the ads never seemed to relate to the site in any way. Now the sponsors seem to be selling stuff people on this site may actually want to buy. Plus, professional backing and funding mean professional support for the users. We actually get people dedicated to making the site better for us, it's not just a hobby anymore.
I'd rather have this than pop-up ads, or constantly being bugged for donations by the staff.
Now that's a very good point. I've been other places where the owners are just constantly badgering at you for donations donations donations if you want to use their site, and it wears you down. Especially if you've donated what you can already, and can't afford any more.
This sits much better with me. :)
Agreeing with Darth Mongoose. There are worse ways to sell out. At least this is creative. Things can't just float on advertisements sometimes. You gotta make your own. Bohemian Trash owns SCD. If BT sells out and gets me an action figure deal then all for BT. Yeeeaah. There are worse things. Like flashing ads. Eww.
Honestly, we shouldn't be complaining. We have a professional, and totally free service to use to show our artworks. Not to mention a friendly community and staff to help keep things running smoothly.
I'll second that. The community and staff here rocks. I've had comics hosted on other sites before, but this absolutely my favorite.
I have to say I take GREAT exception to the term "sell out" when refering to Volte.
Dylan has ALWAYS had and still has the best intentions for DD. The duck was always his baby, and it still is. The only difference is now he is being paid to take care of it. Sounds like a dream job to me, doing what you are passionate about.
If a comic company thought your comic was great enough to buy, and you sold it to them, making money off what you LOVE, then I guess you'd be a sellout, too, right?
Dylan is not an artist, cartoonist, or writer. His skills are what we all use to show OUR skills. He's helped out COUNTLESS people by having this FREE site and allowing everyone to come on it and be as creative as they want.
Let's put that term away, okay?
If you say it from this point on 1.) You don't know Volte or the great care he takes with the site or 2.) You are just a jerk trying to stir up trouble.
On behalf of the staff I'd like to say "thanks" to all of you that appreciate what we do. ;)
