There's a kind of game my friends and I have played, where everyone is matched to a decade that they would belong in. By "belong," I mean if you were to live from 18 to 28 years old, the prime of your life. Surprisingly, there are some rather cookie-cutter molds that my friends fall into. For example, I know a hippie who would quite easily fall into the 70's (He's the kid who always wears Led Zepplin and Grateful Dead shirts). I know the perfect candidate for the 90's, on account of his grunge-loving tendancies.
Music plays a large part of where you think you'd fit into a decade. The other really big factor is to take into account who your historical idols are. (Are you more James Dean or Jim Henson?) After that, generic pop-culture items of the decade should be considered, such as films, television, fashion, etc. But most of all, it's a feeling that you get from yourself or someone else.
For example, and I'm not sure about this, but I think ozone would have really lived it up in the 40's. I'm not sure about his warmongering tendancies, but I think he'd be the kind of fellow who would really enjoy wearing a nice uniform. And if the 40's don't grate right, I'd recommend the 80's punk revolution. He'd probably fit in real well there, too.
Here's an odd case: I think Terminal/Myxomatosis is actually perfect for this decade now. His attraction to electronic music and artistic experiments makes this new computer thing his time. And, I've never thought of anyone as being before their time, but Terminal might fit in a little more in the 2010's. Tough to tell.
Myself? I've always been fond of the 50's Beat generation, though I think I'd be ultimately happier in either the Roaring 20's (Man, must have been wild back then.) or the post-war 40's. (It was a picturesque America then.) Any decade when swing is big would be fine by me.
So, the question is: What decade do you think you and other people on the Duck would fit into?

The Decade of Your Soul
Uniform? 40's?
hahahahaha! Yeah, make me the captain of a battleship. :)
But the 20's in England, France, and Itally, and maybe even New York in the US would be more my style. As a Bertie Wooster type, don't you know old fuit?
Either that or the 70's! ROCK!
or maybe the 80's… That was a fun decade for a while.
I have no ability to match other people to decades… But I agree with putting Myxo in the future.
I would live in the 1890's if I could be like Calamity Jane and drink all the time and yell at people and spit, and help the doc, and eventually get brave and wear a pretty dress (but get angry and insecure about it).
I'm not really sure what decade I'd belong to. It would be easy to say the 90's but I'm not really sure what 'defines' the 90s, it's just the one I've been in most recently. I remember the 80's much more but not always fondly. I'm not very self-analytical. Maybe the 30's, if they weren't so depressing and involved so much hard work.
I'd like to think I fit best into the 90's. At least in the 90's, I saw a lot of progression in terms of science, tolerance, and acceptance, as well as technology. I also liked some of the music, and haven't really updated my sense of fashion since then. Plus, I don't use a tablet. I go for old fashioned hand-inking and then scanning it in…which I need to get immensely better at. xD
I d'no. There should be an actual quiz to determine that, seperating out the different factors that make someone fit into a specific 20th century decade.(Or earlier, but that would mean a VERY long quiz…o.o; )
One of my friends and I always joke that we belong in the 1950's, because we use words like 'dandy' and 'swell' alot.
And I mean alot.
I think the 50's would be cool- crazy streamlined cars, horn rimmed glasses, the whole kit n' caboodle. (Except for women and people of color being considered less important than others…)
I would live in the 1890's if I could be like Calamity JaneThat's actually interesting, because I have a friend that I'm certain would fit best into the 1890's as well, only in England during the Industrial Revolution. It's funny that you pick the same decade, only in the Wild West. It was a dirty time…
think the 50's would be cool- crazy streamlined cars, horn rimmed glasses, the whole kit n' caboodle.Y'know, I agree. I think you'd be perfect in those cat glasses and a poodle skirt. I like that choice. I wouldn't be surprised if you've got a soft spot for Elvis, James Dean, Frank Sinatra, and Marlon Brando.
I'm forever stuck in the 90's.You need to come to grips with the facts: This decade needs you.
This new decade is too scary. Computers scare the shit out of me.It's this fundamental discomfort with the current times that makes this "game" relevant. Though, I wonder… Would we choose another decade if we never knew how that period of time ended? If we would not, then we must chipper up about our current location in the timeline of humanity, because if history has taught us anything, it's that things work out.

The 50's also had McCarthyism and the Race Riots in LA between Latinos and Whites. I love the hornrim glasses, poodle skirts and cool cars.
Can we bring those forward in time to at last the good old Y2K sensibilities?
The 50's also had McCarthyism and the Race Riots in LA between Latinos and Whites. In the US.
Not so much in her Canada… I love a lot of things about the 20's, but I'm not sure I'd like to spend them in Germany.
What's your decade Mapaghimagsik?
Skool as Calamity Jane? I can picture that one perfectly! :)

Tell that to the Indus Valley civilization who experienced system failure and completely died out.
Or the Neo-Assyrian Empire.
I completely missed that! Even the first time I posted…
There were 3 popes for a short while somewhere around then. Not as long as there were two though.
Hmm, if we're talking any century, then maybe the 40's would be ok for me too. I like the 440's (BC), in Athens. Plato's just starting out, art and architecture is quite pretty and it's before that awful Alexander boy comes along and ruins everything. :(
Tell that to the Indus Valley civilization who experienced system failure and completely died out.I was actually thinking along the lines of humanity as a whole. If you look around yourself now, clearly humanity has never thrived as well as it has at this moment. And even if our world ends, things will still work out somehow. Historically, that's yet to be proven wrong (as it would mean the end of history).
Or the Neo-Assyrian Empire.
But I dig these choices. The 1920's seems to be a big draw for those people who dig the classier cool ideal, what with suits n' all. The more I think about it, the more I like the 1950's. Being cool then was really cut and paste. Either you had it or you didn't. The kids with the black leather jackets are cool, and the ones in button-up shirts with pocket protectors aren't. Man, I could have been real cool in the 50's.

You and me both, man. Cruisin' in our soft-top bel-airs to the burger joint, where we shock everyone with your greaser hair and my dungarees.
Sweeet.
