I just recently heard that people in north Vietnam eat over 200 different types of animals. Of those, 80 are on the endangered species list.
The first thought that came to my mind was this:
The second thought that came to my mind was a question:
How many types of animals have I eaten?
At first I didn't think they were that many but as I started to go through my personal data bank, I was more then surprised. I've eaten a whole lot of animals.
I'm now gonna put down a list of every type of animals that I've ever eaten. I invite you to do the same.
Now don't go and throw at me some "Oh I've never eaten an animal" because I'll challenge that claim on the spot. You could be a vegetarian or even a vegan today but there was a point were you were a carnivorous bastard like the rest of us. Remember the time your parents told you to finish your plate? I bet Betsy the cow had to suffer for that. Ever eaten a hot dog? That's at least 2-3 animals onto your list (often a combination of lamb, pork and beef). It doesn't matter if it's on your regular diet or if it's something you've only tasted once. List down every animal that you remember to have ever eaten.
Here goes.
My current list of slain animals that I've consumed (in no particular order):
Cow
Pig
Sheep
Chicken
Duck
Goose
Turkey
Horse
Mink Whale
Quail/Pheasant
Puffin
Moose
Deer
Raindeer
Cangaroo
Rabbit
Cod
Halibut
Trout
Salmon
Ocean Catfish
Tuna
at least 10 more different types of fish that I don't know the English name off
Greenland Shark (treated (they're poisonous, if untreated)).
Lobster
Octopus
Calamari
shrimp
crab
scallops
And there could be others that I don't remember eating (I'll update this post if I think of them).
So… yeah…
You?

What animals have you eaten?
[sarcasm]I hate Korea, they tramp on freedom of speech from ultra high quality anime like hetelia and unko-san~!
[/sarcasm]
Oh uh, I've eaten the usual meat lovers palette plus :
crocodile (rubbery not very good)
Shark (literally tasted like chicken)
Calamari (my fav)
Lobster
Moose
halibut
That beef that's really expensive, Colby or something,i forgot the name
Baby lamb(;–;)
My middle school teacher always bragged about how he ate cat down in south africa, the very next year he had to stop teaching because of a lewd comment he made about a students undergarments in her skirt.
I always connect the two…that's what you get when you eat cat….:gem:
I just heard recently that north Koreans…
I hate Korea…Oh… uhm… I have absolutely no idea why I wrote down Koreans. I was certainly thinking Vietnam as I was writing that. I've corrected my first post now. Oh, and thanks for reminding me of few more animals that I've eaten.
Also Horse, crocty? What did that taste like and why were you eating it?Well, I think you're addressing me with that question so I'll answer it.
I was living at a farm at the time and they slaughtered it themselves. It had this odd smokey flavor to it despite not being smoked. The meat was also really read in color and had this interesting texture that made it fall apart quite easily. It was a long time ago though and I haven't eaten it since so I can't give you any more details than that.
You can buy horse meat in stores around where I live but it's not considered a mainstream meat. That title belongs to the sheep.
Chicken
Pig
Sheep
Cow
Duck (which I dislike)
Cod
Alaskan Pollock (yummiest fish EVAR)
Tuna
Salmon
Haddock
Turkey
Other kinds of fish
Shark (fin soup, which tasted horrible)
Frog (tastes like chicken and cliches)
And I think I've swallowed a fly but I don't know if that counts
As a side note, I have read the following at a restaurant in Vietnam which made me lose my appetite rather quickly.
Goat's penis with herbs and medicine
Lovely.
Lessee…
chicken
duck (especially when drunk)
MooCow
sheep (lambchops)

snail (when I was younger)
dog (when I was younger)
Octopus (only once… then threw it up violently)

tuna
salmon
sardines
catfish
parrotfish
galungung
milkfish
shrimp
crab
clams (when I was younger and before it was made illegal to dig them up at the local beaches)
turkey
pollock (makes me slightly sick, even when made into fast food sandwiches)
frogs (legs only)
rattlesnake
Meat I would like to try…
koala
kangaroo
wallabe
king brown snake
meat I would rather avoid…
Brown Tree Snake (a cookoff was done a long while ago, but no matter what they tried there was no way to make the thing taste decent)
Rat
all the normals.
growing up, i wasnt allowed to say something wasn't disgusting without trying it first, and if i said it was disgusting first, then i had to eat it. i ate many a random (animal) body part for that.
i once ate a root that is a numbing agent producing plant. the survival instructor then informed us about how it would be great for us in a serious injury situation. i couldn't feel my tongue the rest of the day, but i learned.
Huh…*thinking*

Grasshopper
…I'm sure there's a few more…
I've eaten so much I'm not going to bother listing them all. Here's a list of animals I've yet to eat, but really want to:
Shark
Aligator
Snake (snake whiskey)
Rabbit
I hear all of which is really overrated and I'm not missing much (besides snake whiskey, which I'm told will put hair on your chest. Or if you already have copious amounts of hair, will make you break out into a thick Robin Williams like coat.)
EDIT:
Not really a meat, but I want to try bone marrow too.
I've eaten most of the things people have listed here. It's a bit difficult to find unusual foods in the US. I think so anyway.
The ones I've tried nobody else mentioned are Lion, which tasted a lot like a drier bison meat, and Crappie which pretty much tastes like it's name is pronounced.
I'm still shocked at people's teeny fish lists. -_-
One of the main reasons most of us haven't tried too many terrestrial animals and birds is because most taste like crap. There's a good reason that only a few typical animals are usually on the menu, apart from them being easy to raise in captivity: they taste pretty good.
Even less typical stuff like goat, duck, quail, goose etc isn't that great a meal.
Im basically a carnivore, so lets see…
Cow and veil (including the guts, I love roasted heart)
Chicken
Turkey
Pork (in its many very delicious forms)
Fish (catfish, seabass, trout, etc)
Seafood (Shrimps, crab, calamari, octopuss, clamps, lobster, etc)
Lamb
Goat
Guineafowl
Rabbit
Guinea Pigs (that tastes even better than rabbit)
White beetles (we call them catsos here in Ecuador)
Tapir (that amazingly tastes even better than pork)
Ostrich
Monkey (not that good)
Frog (quite tasty)
Snake (Like chicken)
Cromm bless animals on Earth, because they taste SOOO GOOOOOD!!!
