First things first, despite Pullman being an atheist, the books are agnostic.
Uh huh, I haven't read them but, agnostic means

1 : a person who holds the view that any ultimate reality (as God) is unknown and probably unknowable; broadly : one who is not committed to believing in either the existence or the nonexistence of God or a god
2 : a person unwilling to commit to an opinion about something

Well if the books go as far as saying there is a god and angels then they prove there is a god and therefore aren't agnostic nor atheist but just anti christian or catholic whatever.

The film itself is pretty poor though.

a long long time ago in a galaxy we are currently in, i began to read the golden compass as a english class assighnment thing and not being able to finish it. i really wanted to read more. i mean, kids with their own demons and a secret plot concerning some strange stuff called dust. sounded like it was getting good. so, i went to see the movie. the best thing that came out of that was the polar bear catching the tongue of the evil king bear, along with half of his face. yay violence.
oh yeah, hai essaybee, hope fusion isnt killin you!
