Desert Island Art Supplies

HippieVan at May 29, 2015, midnight

You've been tasked with illustrating the graphic novel memoirs of an evil king. Hey, the pay's alright - you can do this! The catch is, he's locking you up in an isolated tower somewhere with only three art supplies of your choice until the project is done. Assuming that you get EITHER your choice of paper or a computer and tablet, what do you bring? (Note: If you go digital then you have to choose three 'tools,' e.g. brush tool, pen tool and magic wand. The tools can be from different software programs.)

My choices:

I'm going traditional! I like inking and colouring digitally, but I never feel quite comfortable doing the initial sketch on a screen. Maybe one day they'll invent a screen with a nice rough sketchbook texture and I'll migrate. Until then, here's what I'm bringing.

1. Mechanical pencils - good ol' Bics. I'm going to be using this as an excuse to not ink anything, because inking is the worst.
2. Grumbacher watercolour paints. My high school art teacher gave me two sets of these before I graduated (along with a bunch of other stuff because he was awesome) and I swear by them. Grumbachers also come with a pretty good brush, so no need to bring other brushes!
3. Promarkers. I'm new to art markers so there could very well be better ones on the market, but I like them a lot. They're vibrant, smooth colours and each marker has a thin end as well as a thick end, so if I have to go back on my never-inking-again pledge that's an option.

What are your must-have comic-ing supplies?
