The Dark Broadcasting Experiment

Looking for an excuse to begin a Twitter account for your webcomic? Well, I have one for you!

A recent community has dropped a pebble in the lake that is the Twitter webcomic world and has begun to make waves by dedicating the month of January to “dark broadcasting”. The account in question, @ArtigradesClub, has set the challenge of retweeting every post with the hashtag #artigrades and is encouraging its fast-growing network to do the same.

This is an interesting experiment as it is clearly demonstrating the power behind the concept of viral social media. A single tweet can expect to see over 1000 views, otherwise referred to as impressions, in a short space of time through this social media marketing technique and it is incredibly gratifying to see how supportive both creators and fans have been in spreading their favourite webcomic’s posts. It is also a great opportunity to discover some new titles to add to the no doubt ever-growing list of comics to read.

So if getting into social media is a goal for your project this year, now is a great time to get your foot in the door. Don’t forget, The Duck also has an active Twitter account that you can follow as well! You can find it here!

Tell us what you think of “dark broadcasting” or if you are part of the challenge, how are you finding this increased exposure?
