My Favorite Print Comic: Get Fuzzy

kawaiidaigakusei at Jan. 8, 2018, midnight

There was a time when getting the local paper delivered to my door each day did not seem like a frivolous luxury. In fact, having a newspaper subscription seemed as common as watering the lawn.

I have fond memories of picking up the newspaper and turning to the Business section and search for the two to three large page spread of printed comics. My favorite comic was Get Fuzzy by Darby Conley. It featured a conniving cat named Bucky and a dog with a heart of gold named Satchel. The cat and dog lived with their human owner and the events that occurred were often humorous because of miscommunication.

Get Fuzzy reminded me of my own family dynamic whereas my sister was a lot like Bucky and I was oblivious to outside stresses in the same manner as Satchel.

It has been several years since I have had a newspaper subscription and I was recently feeling nostalgic about my old favorite comic strip, so I googled it. It turns out that the whole archive of Get Fuzzy strips are available online. That is when I became curious as to what is considered print comics or webcomics and if they will eventually become one in the same. I guess the difference between print and web is whether a comic has print syndication.

It is a nice surprise to see some of my old school favorite comics adapt to an online readership. I guess the discussion between print vs web comics will finally be put to rest when a large majority of comics will be available on the Internet.
