Tattoo Art

While walking down the street in San Diego’s gas lamp quarter I pass a tattoo shop and my friend says to me, “Let’s get tattoos! I already know what I want my next design to be.” I hesitated and walked on not because of my lack of interest in tattoo art, I just have a horrible fear of needles. I am also deterred by the permanent nature of tattoos, something that feels like a good idea today might feel like a mistake years from now.

While streaming shows online, an advertisement for a semi-permanent tattoo company was being advertised with the tag line, “temporary tattoo for those afraid of commitment”. This create your own tattoo would transfer ink to the top layer or skin so it would last longer than rub-on temporary tattoos. It really started me thinking that I would want my own designs printed and placed on my shoulder, if only for less than a month.

In the past, I’ve had people ask me to design their next tattoo and I have nicely turned down their requests because tattoos are so permanent and painful. A nice temporary tattoo where the ink sits on the top layer of skin seems a lot more user friendly without the fear that someone does not like it or regrets getting it done.

I am now a step closer to realizing my tattoo dreams than I was a few weeks ago when I walked by the tattoo parlor.

Has anyone ever tried designing a tattoo?
