No Spoilers!

While talking about the Golden Globes last night, my best friend tells me to stop spoiling the end results. ‘Okay, I will stay in the crisper’, I responded. I should have known! A majority of people do not like endings of books or winners of award shows revealed before it is time.

Some of us have heard about the recent story about the two men in Antartica where one man kept ruining the ending of the books his friend was reading before he finished them. It ended with the upset reader stabbing his companion. After hearing the story, many critics and late night hosts sided with the man who had all his book endings spoiled!

Spoilers take away the element of surprise, unveil any twists and turns and expose any red herrings in the story. The person spoiling might be doing it out of contempt or to see a reaction from someone (ie. The drive-by spoiler that ruined the ending of a Harry Potter book by letting all the children in line know how the books ends during the Half Blood Prince’s release night.

I love spoilers for unpopular shows because it sets my expectation bar really low and I am often pleasantly surprised when I discover the movie was not absolute hog wash like a reviewer might have said. However, I am not fond of spoilers or reviews that elevate a film’s status because I sorely dislike being disappointed.

Without any spoilers, and as an aside, I am completely thrilled about the winner of the best picture and best actor of the 2019 Golden Globes because it was also my favorite movie of last year!
