Rest and review
Emma_Clare at Oct. 18, 2019, midnight
Considering how many steps there are in creating comics, planning, plotting, writing, scripting, sketches, pencils, inks or colours and everything in between, it’s important to build in some time for review. Now this seems like a logical step. But when deadlines, self-imposed or otherwise, loom, this step is often by-passed.
I’m a perfectionist who also has a spot of impatience when it comes to getting things done. I like to do things in one go so that it’s ticked off the to-do list. Whilst this makes me prolific and quick it doesn’t always make me accurate. To be accurate, you have to take time. When I begin to become tired and, in turn, sloppy, I now stop. I don’t push through.
This might mean downing tools for the night or going for a walk to get some much needed oxygen and sunshine. Other times it means putting the project down for a few days so I can come back to it with a fresh perspective.
If you constantly find yourself without much time, try adjusting your deadlines and goals. Building in rest and review time is important to any project as it raises the chance that the product will be better quality.
