What makes your comic special?

When you’re creating something like a webcomic it’s very easy to diminish your own work. You work on it every day and, if you’re anything like me, you only ever see the mistakes. During my regular stalking of the comic forums I came across a thread asking creators what they believed made their comic special. It struck me that this was a very positive and much needed thought experiment considering I have two active comics at the moment, one of which is hosted here on DrunkDuck.

So what do I think makes our comic, The Constellation Chronicle, special?

My first thought is that it’s a marriage between political drama and an eventual decline into existential horror. We started this comic just prior to the current global political upheaval and we’re constantly finding parallels in our story to what is happening on an international level. This is not surprising given that we are affected by these events on a daily basis.

There’s also a real evolution in the artwork itself. The scope of the project is rather large, given that it involves politics on a galactic level so it stands to reason that the art would be ambitious. Looking back on the artwork from Issue 0 to now, there is definitely a drastic improvement. This is charming aspect of amatuer/indie comics as it highlights how much the artists/creators are constantly evolving alongside their work.

Lastly, I would say that our comic’s cast is very near and dear to us. It is large but the players are mainly all there now. Our characters have very clear personalities and we enjoy spending time with them and we hope that comes across in our work as well.
