Setting goals in 2021

It’s 2021 everyone. Somehow we made it to the end of a strange and often heart wrenching year but we did it. We hit many milestones, particularly on Drunkduck. We now have the lowest amount of spam ever on the site, the anthology is coming along, the Quackchat is over 120 chats and counting and even the Quackcast reached over 500 episodes.
Today, we’re continuing the tradition of opening the year with how to set goals for the upcoming year, but before I get into it, I wanted to highlight this caveat. Another year is over but life may continue to be chaotic. When setting your goals, using the method below, keep in mind that you schedule time for yourself. As we enter 2021, make sure you work in time to relax, recharge and be kind to yourself. Take stock of what you achieve, even if they seem small.
So without ado, here is the method of “How” and what it adds to your new goals for 2021!
In the beginning many probably start with fairly loose, fluid goals such as, “Get more readers,” or “Have X many views,” but what goals like this lack is the “How”. By introducing a “how” to our goals, we give ourselves direction and more importantly, a way to measure how successful we are in achieving this goal. With a comic project, a New Year’s Resolution may be, “Get more readers,”. By introducing a “how”, we can get more specific. Some examples of “how” are:
Get more readers by collaborating in comic projects or cross promoting with other people.
Get more followers by interacting with comic chats.
Get more impressions by advertising on TopWebComics or right here on The Duck.
From here you can measure the goals.
Get more readers by collaborating in comic projects or cross promoting with other people - Measure views to see if there has been a rise in viewership and read comments
Get more followers by interacting with comic chats. - Look at how individual tweets perform using Twitter analytics.
Get more impressions by advertising on TopWebComics or right here on The Duck. - Are my views increasing on the weeks I advertise vs if I don’t?
The benefit of giving your goals a “how” is that you know where you can point to if something isn’t working and change your strategy. It is important to always review and revise your goals as they will never be static, and as you grow as a comic creators, so will your goals.
Don’t forget you can now advertise on DrunkDuck for just $2 in whichever ad spot you like! The money goes straight into running the site. Want to know more? Click this link here! Or, if you want to help us keep the lights on you can sponsor us on Patreon. Every bit helps us!
