Spring Cleaning: Decluttering the Hoard

It is difficult for me to focus on a drawing project if my desk is in disarray or there is a pile of unsorted objects around me.

I purchase items in multiples. If I see a good ink pen at the office supply store, I pick up multiple four-packs of the same pen because I know what it feels like to run out of ink in the middle of lining a pencil sketch drawing. Why buy one pen when eight pens are more abundant? It is an inconvenience I prefer to control. Purchasing items in multiples also applies to packs of drawing paper, pencils, lead refills, and the list goes on.

It feels like the first time in a long time that I am finally getting a chance to dive into my storage of accumulated items and put them to good use. (Hooray for stock-piling)

Sometimes, a general nonchalance in my room upkeep can often hinder the amount of work I am able to produce in a given time. I have no idea why that is besides the fact that I am easily distracted when I see things that need to be organized and I will put a project on hold until the area is immaculate. I usually have a good habit of deep cleaning all the dust bunnies around the desk before I sit down for hours of focused work.

Are there any other creative types that have any set routines before working on a project? Or is there anyone who needs the disarray and disorder in order to function?
