The balance of males and females in the workplace became one-sided during the second world war. Several men were deployed overseas, giving women living stateside the opportunity to work in factories while taking care of their families. The introduction and integration of women into industrial factories was the spark that has changed the modern workplace of the present, as many decided that factory life was preferable to staying at home post-War era.
This movement was reflected in the stylistic posters on display, such as the one above, which read, “‘The Girl He Left Behind’ is Still Behind Him. She’s a WOW.” The famous cultural icon of the same era, Rosie the Riveter, dressed in a blue work-shirt and a red bandanna tied around her hair is iconic as the “We Can Do It!” slogan above her head.
It is possible to note that a single image can make a lasting impact on the way the general population perceives an idea. Imagine the hundreds of images that are on display for any given day. Are they meant to inspire positive thoughts? Or thoughts of disgust? It is important to carefully select which images to put on display—a single image can easily influence subconscious thought.
