Vintage Shirt Prints: Save the Manatee

The first time I learned about the gentle sea cows of Florida’ everglades was through a Sierra computer game called EcoQuest: The Search for Cetus. Sierra was actively doing its part to help better the world through creating a series of games that brought to light the dangerous effects of pollution and environmental factors that destroyed wildlife. There was a side-quest where the protagonist meets a manatee injured by a boat propeller and needs to repair it by placing a metal cage over a boat. This is why I have a very fond memory of finding a sixty-cent “Save the Manatee” designed vintage shirt at a thrift shop three decades ago.
Pro-Earth Saving shirt designs (ie Save the Whales, Save the Trees, Give a Hoot) have been instrumental in bringing to light environmental issues that need more work to help nature. In the case with “Save the Manatee”, a non-profit started to increase awareness about manatees, the vintage illustration on the shirt has always been an issue that I have cared about for years. Unfortunately, last year, the number of manatee deaths surpassed 1,100 in 2021 due to starvation.
There needs to be a vintage Save-the-Earth t-shirt illustration design Renaissance.
