Friday Fashion Spotlight 16: Tusk

Welcome to…
The DD Fashion Spotlight!
Number 16.
Tusk, AKA Khthonis, is our she-hulking green orc lady fashionista today! She's wearing her minimal barbarian style gear, made for freedom of moment and maximum speed, while showing off her beautiful emerald form to the very best effect. I like to think of Khthonis as the Julie Strain (R.I.P) of Drunk Duck… well it's almost a toss-up between her an Pinky but Khthonis wins: she has more swagger, more presence, and that Julie Strain awesomeness. Julie Strain was the real life model for the sexy barbarian woman that often featured on the cover of Heavy Metal, she was emblematic and iconic for that magazine, and I feel Drunk Duck has a similar feel to that eclectic alternative publication in the world of online comics. And with that in mind, I bring you the marvellous Tusk!
Khthonis
She's a warrior woman from a barbaric fantasy world, and brief though her gear is, it definitely has a lot of thought behind it and several influences. We'll start with the woman herself: She reminds me strongly of the style of Orcs developed for Blizzard's WarCraft series, stocky, tusky, great hair, and quite human. Her Betty Paige hairstyle is iconic and cool.
Her fabric gear consists of several leather pieces; a halter top bikini with a lovely fringing, soft leather open boots (very Roman style), and a loincloth with no underpants, which incorporates some tusks - whether boar or orc we don't know. She also has a tusk necklace. She wears heavy armour on her left arm, carries a greatsword, and a sabre in a beautiful scabbard.
Armour
At the beginning of her comic we see her fighting as a "Murmillo" type gladiator, indicated by the characteristic helmet on her head, and armour on one arm. And if you were to complain about the lack of her armour elsewhere, well this is why there's none. This style of gladiator only wore that much armour pretty much, with only the addition of a large shield. We can presume she may have had one and lost it? The style of her arm armour is unique though: rather than the segmented style of the Murmillo, it resembles 14th century heavy Italian armour, very similar to that designed for the movie Excalibur. The greatsword is about 16th century and so is the sabre. Like a good fantasy story it mixes styles to get all the cool stuff from every era in one place.
Khthonis is truly a striking and powerful woman and we're proud to have her as a Heavy Metal style emblematic figure for DD.
