The Cure for Jealousy

Hey, you!

I've rarely been jealous of anyone. Certainly moreso when I was younger. Other people would sometimes (well, often) seem to have more going on in some area of life. There were plenty of folks who I'd look at and imagine having their intelligence. Or their confidence. Or looks. Or money. Or friends, or skills, or whatever.

Luckily, jealous/envy has never been a serious problem. Not that my life is perfect. Sometimes it ain't that great. But even on the multiple days when I didn't feel good about myself, which were plenty of times, it didn't translate for me as wanting what someone else has.

But now in my advancing years there was an insight I heard in an interview with, I believe, Malcolm Gladwell. He had a game, or exercise he and his friends would do, or a philosophy they would go by.

It's like this - you could be anyone else on the planet. The richest, most attractive, most capable, intelligent, most-whatever person on the planet.

But here's the catch - you can't just have the quality/qualities that you're envious of. You have to take the whole package. You have to have their complete life and situation. Their job, their challenges, their family, their friends, their obstacles and insecurities.

Speaking for myself, I'm pretty confident that there's nobody on the planet I would trade places with! I want to be me.

This is something created with time and some experience. I truly hope that there is nobody you'd rather be than YOU!
