SS4 101 Sarah feels guilty

I'm such a boob at times! lol  I looked in on the awards last weekend and saw two arrows pointing left and right. One led to votes for the best looking trophy and the other a summing up by the judges. After all the time I've spent on the Duck I totally forgot about checking the menu bar! *smacks head*.  Well I have now, and it's been really staggering to see the results.
I saw we had won 'best background' and that was really nice because the judges pointed out that Emi's colouring really was a big part of that. She may not be involved in writing or drawing this, but the time she saves me in colouring the comic allows me to put more effort into getting my part of it right, and her colouring is always the icing on the cake that really brings the pages to life.
Great to win best dialogue too this year, which I think we've been nominated for several time in the past and finally won.  But my two biggest thrills this year had to be the ones for Sarah as best good guy, and dear Nikki for best supporting character. I actually felt very emotional about Nikki because I told Dragonrider back in the summer that I was thinking of dropping her after a couple of trans readers said they were unhappy about the way I portrayed her, and I felt guilty that I'd wandered into a subject that was just too sensitive. But Steve and a couple of trans readers told me I was doing okay so I left Nikki's part of the script alone and even added to it as the affection for her grew. So for her to win 'best supporting' this year especially is really prized.
'Best slice of life' is always coveted by this comic.
My dear friend Tasha says I threw away 'Best Romance' when I put that strap-on scene in last Xmas! lol She's probably right, but it was way too much fun not to do, and although I haven't read 'The Pirates of Balthasar' it sounds like a wonderful comic and really much more deserving of that one.
and 'Best overall comic'  I mean that one alone is such an ego boost isn't it!  DeathPorn won the 'Most popular comic voted for by the readers' so without the judges this one would have gone to El Cid too. I think the judges were seriously torn between us because the critique on that one was fairly low-key and I think two such similar cream awards going to any one comic would have seemed a bit of a shame, and as the readers decision is final they possibly allowed me the edge on him over the other one.
As I always say though, if you have a comic here on the Duck, it's the fact that they voted for you at all that matters more than winning, because they are the ones that really love what you are doing.
Thanks to everyone who voted and the judges for their wonderful comments about our comic, not to mention all the hard work they have put into organising and setting the whole thing up each year.
Next week:  We are back with Leo for a couple of weeks and then it'll be time for our special Xmas story, but more about that later.
Have a lovely weekend!
