Well, I originally made this card for somebody else… but I might as well send a card out to you lovely people as well, right! Nothing says Christmas like generic repackaged sentiments. But seriously though, you guys are awesome, and thanks for making Drunkduck the great community that it is and has been all these years.
Anyhoo, for those who were wondering, no I'm not dead or retired or anything like that; I just haven't been able to settle down and get any kind of work done on a new comic yet. Also, I'm very strongly considering using some different 3D software for the next project, and I've been tinkering around with learning that as well. I'm sure that I'll (eventually) get something put together and posted, hopefully in the early part of next year, so stay tuned for that.
Oh, and also, for anybody who actually visits or plans on visiting my Squickism site: I'm probably not going to renew the hosting service on it next time around. I've been having too many issues with hackers and will probably end up just building a completely new (hopefully more interactive) site later on when I find the time. So just a heads up, don't freak out if suddenly that dinosaur of a website vanishes off the face of the interweb.
Alrighty, that's all for now. Merry Christmas, Drunkduckers! And a happy new year!
Cid, I was just making a joke of 3D Max's interface, Cinema 4D from what I've heard is the friendliest. The new release looks promising, but I don't know if they've improved the modeling tool set for Carrara Pro. Lightwave is the best buy for all around modeling-animation package.
Well like Poser 7 to 8, and Carrara Pro. Once you unlock the potential of LW, your going to do more powerful renders. Ergo, your own local renderfarm (the power company will love you).
I'm still trying to decide between Modo and LW, I'm sort of wanting the better tools in Modo, and 701 got Bones and IK.
Seriously though, LW does offer some plugins that Carrara doesn't have but should, better cloth and fur generation. So yeah, I understand, not to mention better tool sets for modeling as you push it. (Suddenly imagines Carmen with larger breasts and ass bitching about Cid's new found abilities).
Nah, not interested in 3Dsmax. The main reason I switched to Carrara from Poser in the first place was because it renders faster, and I don't have to omit things like reflections and shadows to get reasonable render times. I'm thinking about switching to Lightwave because DAZ has for all intents and purposes abandoned us old-school Carrara geezers who still have a Poser-Carrara workflow. Lightwave gives me comparable quality rendering (actually, much better quality) at comparable speed (faster, actually), and I don't need to take out a second mortgage to own it. It'll do. It actually has a better rendering engine out-of-the-box than Max does, though both have some super impressive third party renderers that I'm not going to bother with.
Had a feeling, they were running a special on it as I recall. Think that's bad you should see 3Dmax. Anyway, try liberty3d, the owner did work on BG, names Kat. Has some good tutorial products. The modeling tools leave Carrara in the dust, the rendering… Well you know those cheap computers… yeah time to make a farm ;)
It's a long story, and I haven't completely ruled out sticking with Carrara. But I did recently purchase (legally, I might add) Lightwave 11.6 and, after tinkering around with it a bit, I think I can do most of what I'm already doing, only better, by switching to that platform. It's going to be a painful learning process though; it's probably the most convoluted 3D software I've ever worked with.
It's Carmen. She's been doing the whole Marilyn Monroe platinum blonde thing as of late. Last year, Angie got all elfed up so it's only fair that this year Carmen has her turn!
