Well, Otakon didn't go nearly as well as the last time we went. Mostly I think it was placement and a general lack of organization. No one on staff could give a consistent answer on anything from when things took place to what doors you could or couldn't go through (which seemed to change every couple of hours). Not to mention staff constantly complaining about each other whenever there was a problem. The guy running the Alley was bitching about the VP, the guy I spoke with in regards to the workshop was going off about the guy that set up the workshops, the people watching doors didn't know whether they were coming or going…. I spent almost an hour talking to another artist in the Alley who said it was the worst con she'd ever worked (especially compared to Otakon in previous years), and an artist I sat beside at a 2004 con in Miami agreed that staff coordination was nonexistent.
But Hexx, the boy, and Anthony had fun. Just from a business standpoint I have to echo that one artist with whom I spoke and say that it was easily the worst con I've done, as well. And with it being so far away, it has to be at least somewhat decent financially (read: I have to break even) or it's simply not worth the investment.
I think I'll pass on future Otakons, at least for the next couple of years, and stick to more in-state conventions, primarily US industry comic cons.
That's the way the business works, though. Some years a con is good, some years it's bad.
Anyway, here's the next Sune page. Sorry, I had a lot of catch up to do at work when I got back, and I wanted to launch Prenna.
