So this was another one that was kind of hard to write out, and it doesn't help that Agneris leans toward the dramatic and doesn't like to say things straight.

To simplify things a bit: Dustan Guren's spell is constantly renewing itself. It's designed to do so without any effort on the part of the caster. When he died it passed to his youngest living relative - Nareth's grandfather, then on to Nareth. Humans had a very limited understanding of magic, so when he took lessons as a child and couldn't do anything, they simply assumed it was some anomaly that he couldn't cast magic. They didn't realize it was because he was trying to cast two spells essentially on top of one another.

Man, though, Agneris is awful smug. Why do I write so many smug characters? He should go hang our with that guy in the last town. The smug would be overwhelming!
