Have we ever thought about creating a DrunkDuck App for the iPhone? It would be a great way to get more exposure. :)

"Hey I got a text! No wait, it's only a comment on my comic on DD."

I would love a DD app for my iPod Touch. I'm on this site all the time with it.

Who is this 'we'? Wouldn't they need access to DD's code?

Prolly.

Anyway, what would it actually do? Would it work like the dd alerter?
If so… that would be a good suggestion to make to Plat. As a free app, maybe it could even up our profile a bit? ^^

Although I think there are about 10 bajillion apps out there… :(

That's what I was thinking, ozone. It would get DD's name out there, and offer its comics more exposure. It would be cool to have our own little DD reader App (and perhaps that combined with the Alerter thing). There are a couple webcomic reader apps out there, but not many (and some actually steal from major webcomic sites without permission). I don't see any Apps offered by Keenspot/Comic Genesis, Smack Jeeves, etc., so DD having their own App could be a bonus, and would perhaps bring more artists to host their comics on DD.

The only decent webcomic reader App I see is Ruven Chu's Webcomic Reader. It has the usual high-profile webcomics like LICD, Penny Arcade, Girls with Slingshots, etc. but I seriously doubt the creator got permission to use any of these (in fact, it looks like the most recent update had a comic removed at the request of an author). The App also crashes a lot, from what the Reviews say. …Anyway I was thinking something along these lines would be a very nice App for DD. :)

Yeah there are almost no webcomic apps. That webcomic reader one isn't very good, actually. It works but it looks terrible. And like you said, the guy doesn't really have permission.

So a decent webcomic app would be awesome.

mobile uploads would prolly be the best part. as it is ,there is no way to upload images using iphone. even smackjeves has a way to upload an image from somewhere else on the web. like photobucket. that way you can still use the iphone for mobile updates.

i think , at least DD should have a mobile site. i would like to read some comics on DD from the phone but its too slow. if they made a mobile site with size limits and stuff it could work. it could be a seperate part , like forums or games. it would be parrellel and optional.

A DrunkDuck application would be fantastic and an incredibly good way to advert the site and generate more traffic and profits. Throw in some Platinum Ads, and make it free. (Tons of apps do free apps, add ads.)

Like lastcall said,

I would make it a reader. Make a login option, give people the ability to comment, add faves, and hit up the forums. It could be a very simple UI.

Of course this is all hypothetical and while a good idea, would take an incredibly long time to find someone to port this code over the the iPhone platform.

You mean there's currently no mobile site? O_o
I always just assumed there was one… I thought that was what Carly was working towards. Ah well, no wonder DD is so crap on my phone. :)

Well, the Store is the BIG focus now. It's sooooo close to finish, but then will be the period when all the new store members find all the new and wonderful bugs that will DESPERATELY need fixing… So close to being done.

The programmer is a Mac guy. I know that, and he's got a good idea of how DD works so if anyone could do it, it'd be him. But I don't want to get people's hopes up. Currently it's the store to the exclusion of everything else and it'll be that way till after it's up. THEN we can ask about other stuff.

Yeah, the forums are fine - well, reading them is fine. I usually wait until I'm on my pc to reply to anything, because that's a pain on my ipod touch. But comics kinda suck.
