Well your gonna get alot of views thats for sure.Holy shit a Vaughn plushie would be cool.EXACTLY thats what makes it Genius!
But I'm not about to comment on a comic just to get one. I usually don't comment at all, and if you're using this contest to get ratings/comments I simply find it despicable.
Its despicably genious???? Huh? Well, I just wanted to get people in to read it. Its hard breaking in with a new comic here on the duck these days. I thought even if people didn't want to participate they'd at least check out a page or two of my comic. I have enough faith in what I'm producing that it can get an audience if people give it a chance :D

I make custom plushes...and CONTEST! (Contest Over)
I don't think there's anything wrong with this contest (hence why I posted it as a newspost). It's a legitimate way to get people to look at her comic and comment on it. She never asked to receive 5's (only required comments) and she has said she wants criticism and honesty. Unless she lashes out at anyone who might say something negative or gives her a low vote, I'm inclined to believe her, eh?
If people want to leave fawning comments and give 5's they don't think she deserves, that is their problem not hers.
I'm also not sure the 'tell us your number of favorites' challenge is valid, though it would be interesting. She's sure to get lots of pageviews and comments, and any high amount of favorites is just going to be a reflection on how many people she's gotten to look at her comic. People will probably also Favorite it to make sure they don't miss a page to comment on. If after the contest they aren't interested anymore, they can easily unfavorite it. I think she's been clever and honest about wanting readers and comments and there is nothing wrong with making a contest out of it, offering as a prize something many of you admittedly want very much. Some of you sound jealous. :) Networking, commenting, fan art, and patience aren't the only ways to get attention for your comic.
She gets something she wants, and people who participate are doing so willingly. If you don't want to, fine, but you don't need to insult her about it (Tater). It's honest PR and any time anyone has a contest or buys advertising or puts up a sig image of their comic, they are doing the exact same thing. I'll thank you not to attack her, and I hope the people who are saying that her tactics are despicable are being facetious. :)
That said, thatreevesgirl, I would pay you good money to make a plushie of Reynardine and I get first dibs cos I'm admin right, right?! T_T
this contest kinda makes me sick, you shouldnt neeed to buy votes, how would you then know if anyone acctually likes your comic? maybe everyone thinks its a piece of crap but they just want a doll?Simple all thats needed to prove people like her comic is if they keep coming back even after the contest, then we'll all know if people like her comic.
Personally I think it's a clever idea. I also think it will help her long term readership, generally anything that makes pageviews spike does. As long as it's higher after the contest than it was before it can be considered a success.
I'll look at her comic just because I'm curious now, I'd kinda rather make my own plushies.

I agree with Skoolmunkee about this, I don't think anything bad is happening here. In fact, I found it rather interesting and clever which was why when I was recording the DrunkDuck news for the Gigcast yesterday, I mentioned the contest.
She never specifically asked for high votes or 5s or whatever. I can understand if people don't want to believe her and worry that if they post honest unfavourable comments, she'll shut you out of the contest but quite frankly, that's not her problem. Quite frankly, you should all be posting honest feedbacks to begin with. :P
If you can't trust her, there's nothing really wrong with that. Just don't enter or comment truthfully (but constructively) and see how things go. :) She's offering everyone that comments faithfully a 25% discount.

man…I leave and go to my two jobs, come back, and look what happens. Drama erupts on the forums…but that's nothing new.
What you need to know from me.
1. I don't need or expect all 5's. I guarantee that some of the pages are not going to be 5 worthy, because I'm a growing and developing artist. I really want people to tell me what they think I can do to improve, what they like, and what they don't like.
2. I used a talent/ability that I have and put it to good use. I'm sorry if this has offended people, or that people think that it is unfair. I really didn't mean to make anyone mad, I'm not forcing anyone to participate.
3. Thank you, thank you to all of you who have looked and commented and rated…it was so wonderful for you to take the time to do that. After Anime Iowa, I plan on checking all the links of people who have commented and (if you want) will comment and rate on all your pages. I think that its only fair. And it gives me a great number of artists to check out here at Drunk Duck. And some of you will notice that I've already started, but lack the time in the next two weeks to continue until after the 7th.
4. I don't plan this to be my only contest…I'll probably run this thing again. If you don't have time to participate this time, maybe next time. Next time maybe I'll make it only 1/2 of the page in a given time period…who knows.
So here's what this contest offers:
1. A chance to win a plushie
2. A 25% off a commission coupon if you participate
3. A guarantee that I will look at your comic and do the same as you have done for me.
4. A chance for you to help me become a better artist, and hopefully read something you enjoy in the process.
For those of you that despise this: Look at my comic and ask yourself: "If there was not a contest that I hated going on, would I read it, would I enjoy it, and would it be worth my time?"
I will definitely let you guys know about hits and favorites and all that fun stuff. If anything else, it will be a good research experiment :-D
That said, thatreevesgirl, I would pay you good money to make a plushie of Reynardine and I get first dibs cos I'm admin right, right?!
I think its safe to say that nice administrators probably will  I'll let everyone know when I'm open for commissions.
Thanks for everyone's opinions. If you've said your piece on how wrong you think this is, then it is noted and I don't think you need to bash anymore. Though we could open up a debate about this in that section of the forum…I've always loved a good debate (competed nationally in college forensics/debate). If someone starts a debate thread, link it here, let me know, and we can have some well-mannered dialouge on the issue (ah hell, we'll ARGUE).
^^ Count me in! So far, I like the comic. This is a clever way to draw attention to your comic, and the ability to make a plushie is a marketable talent. This really is not just gushing, I just wish I had any other talents to market my comic with. xD Unfortunately, I'm still working on the "drawing talent" part.
THE CONTEST WINNAH-drawn out of my only hat that I own (which is the ugliest hat in the world) Eleika!!!! Email me at plushstuff(at)hotmail.com and tell me what you want.
Thanks to everyone that participated. I really appreciate all the really helpful comments. You have helped me completely revamp After and for that I am really grateful. What started out as mediocre is now…well, still average (but getting better).
it would probably be a good idea to PM her with your email rather then post it here (even with the (at) trick). I am sure there are harvesters out there sophisticated enough to pick up on that…
Anyways, nice idea for a contest, even people who DISAGREE with it end up reading your comic, basically, its advertisement.
Its okay, I have that email up a lot of places because it is my email address that is publicly posted for people to ask questions or ask for a quote. I have been lucky and haven't had much spam yet, but even if I do start getting it I'll still keep it up. I let her know on her comic too.
The only problem that I have is that I stopped updating regularly for a short period, so I don't know if the lack of updates had an effect on the total turnout or not.
I'll have to watch more on tomorrow's update and the rest of them this month. So far the numbers haven't dipped that severely, even on the days that I had no updates. I'll get back to you at the end of this month with a comparison.
I have a blog currently, but the main one is going live in a few days when I launch over at nightgig.
