I am inclined to believe that there is no greater hell than working night shift. The average human being is not nocturnal. It fucks up your sleeping and ability to function for days on end after a night shift, UNLESS you load up on coffee/tea/whatever and manage to stay awake until night falls again.

Does anyone else here hate night shift as much as I do? I'm really sure I can't be the only one…

I always liked the night shift. I worked as a chef for five years. You generally get out of work at 1am, then you go party till 5, and even if you don't party you're usually up till 5, and then you crash and wake up around one or two, with enough time to shower and eat before work. It's the kinda schedule you need to get used to, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss it.

I can function diurnally or nocturnally, no worries. :)
The problem is though when you're on a night working pattern/day sleeping pattern and you have to do major shopping and bill paying. That sucks because you can only do that in the day really and you're always so tired. The other thing is when you have some night jobs and some day jobs. Shifting your patterns around for that is hard (forcing yourself to shift that is). Routine is easy though…

Heh, but my normal pattern is a shifting one anyway these days so it always changes for me, I fit my work in around it.

I start to feel like a slug when I sleep at 5am and wake up at 1pm every day. So yeah, I hate the night shift too. Hang in there though! Maybe eventually you can get the day shift :)

How about waking up @ 5:30…working all day and then staying up til 3:00 in the morning working on your comic? Sucks for the next day of work! I can tell you that!

What are you talking about?

NIGHT SHIFT IS AWESOME!!!

Why?

1) No manager or supervisor to boss me around.

2) Sure… I have a quota to fill but I get it done in 5-7 hours. Meaning I got 1-3 hours of breaktime. Either drawing, surfing the net (just no porno sites or viruses might come off and I'll be traced), chit chatting with other workers, or sleeping.

3) No traffic when I drive going to and from work.

4) Some companies (mine doesnt) offer extra pay for working at night shift.

I've got to pull an allnighter every now and then, but usually it's a lot of fun to do, since my job is pretty much awesome. I'm a cameraman, and sometimes news happens at night, so I get asked to skip a night to film stuff. Usually it's cool stuff though. And I get paid double the salary.

So nightshift rocks, in my case.

The only problem I have with night shift is that every other person I know has a daytime schedule, so I'm out of sync with them. Otherwise I like working nights. All shifts at our plant are twelve hours, six to six, and I like getting up at 3pm so much better than 4:30am -

Dont you get payed more though for doing night shift?

I have to disagree, while it isn't really the same thing, I often get my work done at night rather than during the day. It's usually quiet, and if it isn't, there's no hassle going somewhere where it is. The only problems I have is that I'm tired during the day (and since I have to be up during the day sleeping in isn't an option), the fact that the facilities are closed (although this isn't much of a problem, because I can just wait) and the minor problem that keeping this up will drive me insane and then dead.

hmm, I do that too except its not my comic that I'm Working on till 3

I've worked night shift more than once before.
Honestly it depends on the job for whether it sucks. In a call center its a lot of fun doing nights(you need a healthy sense of humor though). Doing construction it sucks. Doing night security is amusing. Night calls on computer field tech work is aggravating. Like I said, it really varies on the task involved to judge if a night shift is workable.
