Generally speaking, I'd say lopping off someone's head is a pretty good way to despatch them. But not always. If you try and your sword starts glowing redder than Darth Maul's light sabre (as it does in the latest instalment of Vampire Phantasm: Excrucio), then there's a good chance that maybe it's not going to work this time.

Oops!

***************************

And, as it happens, "Oops!" is as good a word as any to describe the latest events in Shades, too. Today we close our little glimpse of Stan's domestic life and ask the question: "Will his story of how he became injured, be enough to reconcile his daughter to him?" Pfft! Pigs'll fly!

Well, okay - maybe not pigs. But super heroes and stuff … they fly, right?

Posted at

Shades is always a treat to read, the human factor is what makes this story so much fun. These feel like real people and the domestic situation between Stan and his daughter serves to concrete this. If you're not reading Shades, you should be…definitely! The art is always killer in this comic and the fact that it's not a traditional hero comic is a big draw.

The Chronicles of Wyrden updates today with some back and forth dialogue between Morgan and Talon, will Talon do the right thing? Well, wait and see!

Today on Chronicles of Wyrden, we see someone decides to do the heroic thing and… run away? That doesn't sound right? And what could it mean?

Today on Warriors of the Night, we take a little break from the vampires and see what else Jayfri can do with his artistic talents

Warriors of the Night: Haha! That's awesome! I love the pic of Iron Man you made! It looks quite awesome!

I have to say that I sure do love amanda's Salt The Holy. On this page, we have two lovely formal dressed women being drinking under the table… Tsk, tsk… some women nowadays… Anyway, the get caught red-handed. :p Ha ha

———————————————–

On The Burnhams, in another moody page, David's mother is about to show The Burnhams something… what is this something?

I was drawn into The Burnhams by all of the dynamic angles this page has. It adds a nice bit of drama and suspense as we all await what is inside the hatch!

National Dex began its two updates a week this week… updating early due to me having to leave for the weekend. I changed Chip's color scheme so it wasn't as faded as it was previously, tried a new shading technique, and even showcased what I've studied about birds' wings! :)

The wings look great to me… excellent job!

Today on Times Like This: Just a simple gag that's based on an idea I have for a T-shirt.

Yeah, okay, like Engine isn't awesome enough. Frankenstein and the Tombs of the Black Sea sports ttyler's usual kickass art style as he pulls off completely different subject matter just as flawlessly. Oh, and the monster looks great.

Today in Bulletproof: the bad guys make their entrance.

I loved the last panel in the comic. Not just the 'Hello Nerds' part, which was awesome, but rather the whole texture of that scene. It just oozes with cool. Very nice, and great artwork might I add!

American007 updates today and Raphael is on the attack! Shadow must devise a plan to eliminate Raphael once and for all or he'll be finished.

Excellent use of color in AMERICAN 007. I'm not much into Sprite comics, but this one is pretty interesting.

At FLICKERFLAME (my other solo web comic) Police/Sting fans will encounter a song that pleases them and makes ironic sense in the scene, plus a nice effect (I think) of a felinoid female leaping at the (anti)hero, at http://www.webcomicsnation.com/alschroeder/flickerflame/series.php?view=archive&chapter=29783

That's an interesting way to provide an insight to the action, through the scope of a gun. Pretty effective story telling element.

PZ: A 3rd variable enters into the fight between Mandy and Melanie just as mutual grudging respect sets in.

Oops. I'm a bit out of the loop here, but it looks like there's trouble coming in PZ.

This week's Morphic features mild violence, threads and philosophical questions about lambs. :) C'mon, you know you want to read it!

PZ: I really like how you create motion out of still drawings. The faces and their expressions are also quite well done. The line-work is impeccable as ever. :)

Morphic: Uh oh. Caught! Things aren't looking good for our hero there. Great work as always. I'm digging the night/half-light atmosphere. :)

George the Dragon updated today! (And for all those who missed it, there was a bonus update yesterday too!) Two updates for the price of one! :D

The graduation dress really does look like the robes for a cult, don't they? Also, the purple dude must be hungry if he's going for raw lobster. Then again, I've never tried it, so it might be nice, like sushi.

In today's Age of Ends, we finally find out just why the prince is travelling all that way for a peasant girl

In Age of Ends, the story is unfolding quite well, as we learn why the Prince is out and about. I like the colors on this, but I would like to see some more panel backgrounds as to help give the readers where the characters are, in relation to their environment.

Hades updates with an older pin-up piece, since I am not yet ready to put time into the actual first story.

Hmm not exactly the kind of pin-up I'd expect lol! Come on, this is HADES - give me Athena or Aphrodite in bikini ;) In all seriousness, though - Tim delivers another great piece of artwork, with an ASTOUNDING level of detail. Lots of eye candy for all zombie lovers out there!

————————————–

A Bit Cheesy updated today:

http://www.drunkduck.com/A_Bit_Cheesy/?p=407590

A new chapter begins, taking Mick's pursuit of The Girl one step further… Or should I say, higher ;) A new day (literally), new possibilities - and new ways for everything to go wrong. And lots of pretty colors, in bright daylight!

I guess Fridays are slow, since I get to review the guy who just reviewed me…..but that is ok, cause' A bit Cheesy, is A BIT awesome. This guy, Fitz is a GREAT ARTIST and it shows with each beautifully layered page of this comic. It is almost 3-dimensional at times. I am still not sure how it is done, but it looks like magic to me.

……………………………………………………………………

Blood Reign and Devil Jack updates with a filler. A look at a long, prior wearer of the Jack, the SNOW QUEEN. She better not go around any animal activists with all those furs on!!!

http://www.drunkduck.com/Blood_Reign_and_Devil_Jack/index.php

I also have a new sketchbook and commission portfolio comic at
http://www.drunkduck.com/Maidens_Monsters_and_Madmen_the_Tim_Tyler_sketchbook/index.php

Tim's work is always a joy to see. I love the way that Tim's art evolves with each work of his. Blood Reign and Devil Jack looks fantastic, and this piece of character art is absolutely stunning both in detail and just pure aesthetic design.

The Chronicles of Wyrden updates with an early concept sketch of Kalon from 06 and a scene that was put on the cutting room floor for Fate's Hand (the book), this is similar to our character cards and we thought you might enjoy the art and reading the short story snippet too. It defines some of what Kalon's capable of, but doesn't spoil his background or history - that's to come in comic form!

Thanks for reading!

Great concept sketch. I love the work on he upper sleeves.. Chronicles of Wyrden has an artistic ashetic to it, that is unique and captivating. Its like this world actually exsisted, and the artist and writer have been there, and are now showing us snapshots of what they had seen. Awesome.

…………………………………………………………..

Blood REIGN AND Devil Jack updates with a complete change. I have decided to go back, and tell the story of Devil-Jack from the beginning,..so now begins the original first issue of Devil-Jack from 1994. This will give readers a better understanding of the character, and give me a break from doing more new pages that I am able to at the moment.

That's some incredible artwork… reminds me of the Heavy Metal comics of old.

Today on Times Like This: Cassie salutes the brave soldiers who gave their lives in World War II. And one of them salutes back.

Lol. Glad she's done something nice for the boys in uniform. Changing history for the better. (An episode of Quantum Leap I never saw… Heh.)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There were some fun Used Books pages this week, but I never had any time to post about them. If you're interested, go back a few pages and take a look at a hopeless romantic interrupted, a not-so great visit with the fortune teller, and Kaida taking on an atypically kind endeavor on pages 522, 523, and 524.
The latest page is 524 and marks the conclusion of a light-hearted quest for Kaida but the beginning of a different sort of encounter. Still at the Renaissance Fair, btw. So we have fan costumes and interesting atmosphere.
