Normal average people who are hereos with resources available to the average person, not some made up superstrenth/superspeed/supergay whatever. :)

That's why the iron man movie was one of my favorites, his only 'powers' are being really rich. That's something a normal person is capable of having, not some chosen one 'yur bettar than other ppl taek dis magic powa' crap.

But samurais are also cool. Using the 'special skill' to behead 300 trained, armed, deadly ninja's. Yeh.

Mystical kung fu action set in the modern world. If guns are included, just as good.

I simply find super action with some kung fu thrown in to be just a bit more sophisticated. For example Naruto fights actually seem to involve strategy, planning, techniques, etc. (On the occasions when it's a good episode/arc).

I'm also of the mind that I like some level of reality in my action. I think it's much more impressive to see Batman outfight 8 armed robbers than it is seeing Superman beat a radioactive dinosaur over the head with a submarine… actually, that example was a bit too awesome. Anyway, with the fantastic, I like to see it implemented in realistic ways. I was able to thoroughly enjoy the third Spider-Man film for its action scenes just because they did a pretty decent job of keeping some level of gravity, thermodynamics, whatever sciencey crap it is that makes it look like the character actually had weight while performing feats of amazing Spiderey.

Anyway, what I'm getting at is the more believable something is, the more awesome it is. Largely because it gives me a better grounds for how awesome it is. I'm not big on wire-fu for that reason, because it takes things far away from my point of reference. It can be done well (and really, its subtley implemented in most good action flicks these days), but over-reliance on one gimmick would really kill anything, if you think about it.

Like one of those old gangster movies, but with steam punk.

You know that one quick scene in Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark where the guy in black starts waving swords around in a flashy manner only to have Indy yank out his pistol and plug him with one shot?

Yeah. That kind of action. The kind that's more or less as close as you're going to get to reality in such a situation.

I like a hero that doesn't possess any great physical skill – and doesn't acquire any (I seriously hate that "make-him-into-a-hero" crap), but instead manages to get by on his own personality/wits/luck. It's cool when none of those traits are particularly keen either, just a guy in a bad situation that he manages to get out of. I like it when average people have to rely on each other in a pinch too.

I like escapes and rescues and outwitting each other sorts of things (rather than brawls or combat). I also love a good con, like any kind of major twist, disguise, super-contrived plots on both sides (protagonist and antagonist).

Giant robots. They push the willing suspension of disbelief as far as they could. And then break it. Which is usually good as I get to see mechs destroying each other with four hundred gazillion drills and missiles.

My favourite is… Umm… Conan the barbarian type action worlds. Yeah :)
Or the Destroyer… or Red Sonja…

Groovy. Furry underwear, chainmail bikinis and massive swords.
Heroic, epic stuff.
Also, ancient Greek heroic sort of stuff. No, not The 300, Xeena or any of that tosh, I mean the stuff from the vases and from the stories.

And lastly; the world of the Norse gods, from the stories (not the mawkish Wagner version either). Larger than life, heroic characters, drinking and battling the world and reality into shape.

Hmmm sounds like a story some buy named Bravo is writing. :)

Anyway for me it's ordinary people in extraordinary situations. Occasionally they may have "powers" (magic maybe) but are still ordinary people.

Hard to say for me. I tend to enjoy all sorts of action. From the super outlandish to the tactical down to earth ones.

I like things blowing up. I'm a sucker for almost any kind of kung fu flicks. Really love me some well choreographed fight scenes.

post-apocalyptic. mutants and radiation optional. no superpowers, just regular people fighting the odds to survive in the ruins of civilization.

Yeah, girls blowing stuff up and shooting each other so that the bullets each strike a seem and then their clothes fall apart

The ultimate in testosterone driven action

I don't like girlfights. Because girls tend not to know how to fight and it all looks fake (in live action… in anime anything goes). You have very few female actors (mostly Asian) who actually know what they're doing, or at least look like they know.

Modern wire-fu and sfx help the situation a lot, but that also takes away a level of reality. For example, actions scenes in Casino Royale wouldn't be so cool if it was a woman.

Mainstream American comics are the worst. Because even in comics, those women don't look like they know a thing about fighting. A life-and-death situation looks like a swimsuit modeling shoot. That to me is just pathetic.

1970's exploitation and scream-queen movie type stories. Barbara Steele, Babes in Bondage, Zombie Hookers, Attack of the Robofemoids…

Explosions, automatic weapons, screaming, nudity, sex, monsters, busty babes in peril, aliens, zombies, horror… oh yeah.

I love it when things blow up… but not too often and not completely unrealistic (like a motor bike crashing into a wall, releasing a huge fire ball and taking out half a building, stuff like that just makes me laugh). I also like guns especially big ones that look a little to heavy to pick up and swords that are really shiny or look completely evil. And when people are fighting I like to see them pushed to the limit. They're so tired they can barely stand but they're still trying to break the other guy's jaw. …Yeah, I like a lot of things to do with action. Except bog standard super heros *cough* Superman *cough* and things that think they're so cool they just set themselves up to fail *cough* The Matrix *cough*.

I like watching military gun fights (or any gunfight for that matter. It doesnt have to be gun-fu like Matrix or Equilibrium). I like that opening scene in Saving Private Ryan… and those old "gangster" Filipino movies from the 80s and 90s.

Though gun fights don't seem to be good if the story sucks. It only becomes good if the story is good. If there is alot of drama, political, and religious issues in the background. It also starts to suck if its just total bullshit.

You know, when you're watching a movie and you go. "Yeah right…" Like when Rambo killed a whole battalion of Burmese troops mostly by himself.

—–

Though its cliche, I still find it entertaining when I see those anime ninja fights. Like in Yuyu Hakusho, DBZ, Naruto, Bleach, etc. I know its gonna be all about believing in your power so you can kick the ass of a seemingly powerful badguy who is at least 5 times more powerful than the hero.

Or when the hero suddenly triples, quadruples, or exponentially grows his/her power because of supposedly unlocking something. Like gaining a more solid understanding of the nature of reality or something.

i dont like most modern movies that portray the air force…maybe because i know how it works, and how wrong holly wood is, and the fact that they think they're super right.

in transformers, me and my buddy were laughing nearly non-stop for the first 20 or so minutes….(until the spec ops guys went back to the states)…

i guess it's like a proffesional athlete watching one of those movies about being a proffesional athlete….
