I saw this on tv not long ago, and I just found it interesting.

Some of it sounds awesome, other parts sound….creepy.

I'd just like to hear your opinions on this. Though I'm not sure if this will turn into a debate or not….

Imagine playing the internet with your brain! But if you got a virus or crashed, what would happen?

wow! :D to be able to do things no normal person can…. sounds pretty good but I think that this would only lead to people abusing this kind of advancement on their senses or abilities….

One more reason that to join the army!

Then, when you return, you can use your powers to become a superhero for a small town.

I'd like to hope my super powers come from cosmic or mystic forces.

You guys realize this is going to be used on soldiers about 50 years before we get it, right?
What makes you think it hasn't already? :smt012

's about time. The sooner I can do away with this mortal sack of flesh, the better. *grin*

That article about us all being "Borged" was interesting, but was based on the assumption that these implants in our brain could control what we do. Wouldn't be too tricky to make it one way, surely? After all, essentially it would just be like using a computer - but rather than typing, I'd be thinking. I don't get finger viruses by typing - so why would I get a brain virus from using the net inside my head? It all sounds a bit far fetched to me.

Then again - I have always thought that a "Hive mind" society was the way to go… =)

Yay, porn on the go and in your dreams. The ironic thing would be that they replaced your dick with a circuit board.

Actually, that might happen. I read this book called Feed where everybody in it had a microchip, just like this, implanted in their brains. It allowed them to communicate telepathically, and it allowed them to pull up any information they wanted… BUT the chip did all of their thinking for them. Soon nobody could read or write or do simple arithmetic. (Their "Schoolâ„¢" taught kids about nothing but the hottest trends and lifestyles.) And, of course, there were pop-ups on the microchip that were part of a vast and elaborate plot by major companies to keep people buying consumer goods. The chip designed for "self-betterment" was used to keep people stupid, greedy and ignorant.

Eventually a girl (the girlfriend of the narrator) decides not to play the game and stops buying things. So her "account is terminated"– and she slowly, painfully dies.

I do not think this scientific development bodes well.

The funny thing is they could do it too. I mean, who wants to have to go to school when you could be learning it all through microchips? They'll turn an impressionable younger generation into drones, and then their kids will easily turn into drones too. The only thing we can do to stop this is to recognize that this kind of technology is a threat.

But then, when scientists decide that the human mind isn't progressing fast enough in terms of intelligence through normal evolution, they'll use microchips! And then the chips will be hacked! And people will die!

Or companies will market the chips as making you smarter, and you'll be forced to go along with it.

This is very scary.

The best part is, you'll have no choice. After all, who would want to employ a "normal" human when you can get a "chip human" who can think much faster?

This has the potential to destroy the human race, if it gets out of hand. Naturally, we *must* build it. After all - we invented weapons, bombs, and nukes - if the Borg scenario occurs, this isn't much different.

Three cheers for humankind! *cheers*

HA! This is sounding more and more like that episode of Sealab 2021 where they spend the whole episode talking about what kind of robot they'll be turned into. In the future.
Because you know it's gonna happen.
I'm going to be a 7ft tall sexy female robot with boob mounted lasers and the strength of 200 orangutans.

With X-ray vision.

I'll be a seven of nine rip-off, naturally. you just can't resist my sexy bodysuit, for resistance is futile!

(for those who don't watch Star trek Voyager, you won't get it)

Sooner or later, the thing we call the "Internet" now, will be "Real Life" tomorrow. And this thing we call "Real Life," will be the "Internet."

Er. Yay!

Life, still a poor substitute for the internet.
You won't be saying that when I cut you in half with my laser knockers.

The future is a long way off.

Nonsense. We live in a world where people are selling refrigerators that have TVs built into them. TVs. We have devices that we can use to contact each other anywhere in the world at any time. We have mechanical motors we can put in people's bodies to keep their hearts beating. Sure, we don't have the flying cars and space travel, but other than that, the future is now. We just don't realize it because, like I said before, we don't see ourselves as living in the "tomorrow" of yesterday, we see ourselves as living in the "yesterday" of tomorrow. You dig?

That's crap Ian and you know it! I want a TV built into my TV. Then I might be happy. :?

I reckon Ian will be a robot panda in the future. With laser nostrils and the strength of two million fieldmice.
He may have x-ray vision as well. I just don't know yet.

Red Slayer, I'll be too sexy for you to crush me: All 7 feet of me!
Plus, Robot panda Ian Jay will defend me. And with my X-ray vision I will be able to see you in the nude so you will be far too embarrassed to come near me anyway.
