Has anyone ever noticed how adding "for now" to the end of perfectly ordinary sentences makes them seem terribly ominous?

EXAMPLES:

"I'm going to kiss your new bunny slippers … for now."

or

"I think I'm just going to cross the street … for now."

or even

"I could really use a foot massage … for now."

One of life's small wonders.
