Question about the stats, do these numbers represent unique visitors or pageviews?

I'm not sure, but I think it must be page views.

It is indeed page views. So if someone discovers your archive your comic can get a huge spike in numbers.

With as many archived finished comics as I have, I've seen it many times when there are sudden revivals in page views.
