Tell me how to fix my art style.

Posted at

So I want to draw comics again (and draw in general again) but I don't want a repeat of what happened last time. Since this is like now the only place that my drawing style hasn't got me band from it's the only place I can ask.

I can't imagine why it would ever get you banned anywhere. TBH I always liked your art style. My advice would be draw in your own style and improve naturally. If you want to change or develop try short projects in different styles, experiment and see what you want it to be.

I'm not familiar with your art style. Can you post some examples?

I'm curious about this too, can you post even more examples?

The boring answer is keep practising, but don't just look at other comics. Study comics to learn the craft of comics, but practise drawing from references to improve your skill and best of all, draw from life, whether it's your mug on the table, a cityscape, or anything in between. Trying to make sense of the three dimensional world around you is going to make you a much better artist.
(Careful though - you can get banned from that too. I've been questioned by the police and moved along for drawing street scenes.)

Oh yes, but not recently. To be fair, I do look like a suspicious character.

Comicfury, Tapas and last year I was strongly encouraged to leave Instagram.

You're welcome here with the many other comicfury and tapas rejects.
With instagram you obviously didn't shake enough booty or have enough cats.

The subject matter seems to be a type of horror that some people might object to, so you could get into problems if it's not correctly tagged I suppose, depending on the site, but other than that I can't see any issue.
Just keep drawing I think and follow Genejoke's suggestion - get more cats.

That's GREAT work Tom!
I've always thought your work was pretty cool and it's only gotten better man.

People badgered you off Tapas and Comic Fury? :(
I'm not surprised with Tapas because they tend to prefer their work a bit more generic and mainstream… I know people like Amelius have come forward and said that there's interesting stuff there if you scratch the surface but the reality is the site presents itself with a generic look, promotes generic comics and so that attracts people who like to make generic comics and those that like to see them.
There's nothing wrong with that but it's a reality we need to knowledge and understand. It's like you don't have the Cohen brothers directing a Marvel movie.

Comic Fury is more accepting of different things but the people can be more open in their antipathy to stuff. :/

Anyway, the art you've shown here is great. You're skilled, you have a good style, awesome character design, good technique and use of media too.

Banded from Comicfury and Tapas the people who run the website locked me out of my account so I wouldn't be able to use the website again.

For Tapas the disturbing images could be interpreted as violating the terms of service.

They are broad enough that certain horror images could be interpreted as promoting harm and self harm.

That's some really good stuff, I can't imagine why woud anyone ban you for this style. But this is the current year and anything can get you banned in some places.

That's bizarre.

We've only ever done that to spammers, art thieves and people who've been extremely disruptive and detrimental to other members.

Crickey, that must be very dispiriting, but don't let it get you down. There's a case to be made that if what you say, or publish, or broadcast offends no one, then you're not really saying much at all.

Anyway, you've come to the right place because we on The Duck like to bask in 'I'm offended that you're offended' sauce.

That's my favourite kind of sauce. I only wish you could get more of it in some other places. I like when people react in a funny way because of some joke or a drawing.

You can still do things like that but just have to put up with being canceled, banned, death threats the never-ending "f**k off's"

Or just skate under the radar with a comic illustrated with action figures and get away with everything because it's not drawn and no one will read it. Lol ;)
Readers don't stick around to be offended, it's action figures who cares?
(Insert maniacal laughter here) as I rub my hands in glee at the evil I can do.
