That weird feeling of running into a complete stranger who knows your work.

Posted at

At my day job I had the opportunity to talk about being a cartoonist and making comics with a fellow, he asked about them and I brought up Nakamura Rex.

"Oh yeah, my daughter reads that, I don't know much about that stuff."

Kind of a shock, hearing about a fan third hand is weird on so many levels.

Nah, probably mistaken identity. Parents rarely remember titles clearly. ;) (kidding)

My experience has been coming across any number of webcomic fans, telling them about my work. Then their rapidly changing the subject and the ensuing dead silence about the topic forever after. I rarely ever get a chance to give them the link.

So I don't mention it. Talk about comics for hours and never mention it. They'll look over my shoulder at what I'm working on and I never expound upon it.

"Yeah, I write"

Oh. Inevitably: Make any money?

Nah, I do that building plastic model kits. And that's a much more fruitful conversation. People can relate to that.
