Interesting advice. Unfortunately it sort of undermines what Skool and I are trying to do here- getting the site stable for the users so they'll stay because we like it here as much as them.

But, you do what you want.

If it was meant to be advice I would find an advice thread for it: this thread is for personal observations and opinions. If you want to take it as a personal attack - well that sort of demonstrates my point I suppose.

Why the hell was I in your dream? Well, thanks…I guess. Minus the part where Same takes my head off! What'd I look like? I know you had to be imaginative cuz you don't read my comic (and I will kill all who don't…um

Your head and Same's looked like the avatars you use. Kinda hard to explain unless I dream it again. Unlike Ozone, whose picture I've seen in the picture thread and Pitface who uses hers in her avatar.

And I'm glad you're recovering from your odeal, Product Placement. Hopefully you make a full recovery, though. And I also hope there's no permanent damage to your heart as that could affect your quality of life… after my mother's first and second heart attack she lost a lot of her vitality… (she lost her life a decade ago to her third massive heart attack, which was on the 11th of this month…) T_T

Hang on a minute!… I contribute to the picture threads.

I didn't see it as a personal attack, I just thought that it was a rather disappointing attitude to take.

Coincidentally, the quoted text above and indeed these two sentences are actually a "dialogue".

Pq bugs are getting worse…

And lost posts are very annoying because I did some reading and I want to put out a book review today. It's on Wicked. (not that good a book at all but I did like the lameness in the play :D and the play itself)

What PQ bugs are those? I'd like to know so I can report in and hopefully get it fixed.

As far as I know the only real PQ bug is that they render some limited HTML.

If you mean the missing PQs, those are not a bug, that's part of the annoying side effects of the programmer's current work on the site.

UGH. That old notification issue. Thank the gods I didn't get struck with that one this time. Last time that came up I was at -14 and counting.
I think someone had -25 at one stage.

To Ozone: Well I call em bugs cuz the bug me. I can't really explain but I keep getting old Pq's sent to me, ones that I've talked with someone and finished with. I don't know if he accidentally sent me it again but whatever, it bugs me.

To TGFM: I didn't like how the symbolism in the dreams/time clock dragon things didn't make any sense someimes and that he had to finish the entire book off without explaining some things and summarrizing every single little detail in five pages at the end too. It dragged on for 300 pages with nothing that interesting happening and then finished really quickly. All around it bored me but that is just my opinion, other people can like what they want (even if the book is CRAP).
:)

To PP: Heh, thought I was gonna skip you, didn't you? Never thought of sending myself a message…But right now I'd have to send 5.

Oh and…

I've seen worse bugs, sadly. One another forum site, for one week the posts kept going in reverse chronological order it started on the last page of the thread before the glitch. It made it hard to follow any conversations. We had to remake a lot of threads because the glitch was only on the old threads.

It would look like this.

RAAAGE. i went to the peoples i lived at, and they gave me a slightly cheaper bill (only slightly) they did not include the deposit we never got back. i asked for an invoice, and it is the most generic thing ever:
Outside work: a million dollars
windows and screens: half a million
paint. on the walls. : quarter million
appliances: quarter million.
carpet:
etc…

so yeah. i've asked for a detailed billing. oh, and when i asked if that if the deposit would be applied the response was "oh, you won't get that back, because it goes towards damages." "well why isn't it on the invoice?" and then some mumbling replies. "boss isn't in, i'll have him call you."

The trouble is that it's not a crash, a bug, or an unfortunate error of any kind.

Those site white-outs were deliberate:
The programmer is working on moving across the last of the old services from the old server. Then he shuts off the old server to see if he got them all… then the site goes down. Then he turns it back on again and all the stuff we posted a little while before is gone.
I'm not sure if that's exactly what's happening. Considering that some of the outtages seem to have happened in the middle of the night, I have a hard time imagining the programmer hard at work doing this at 2am on Saturday. Could be the case, but I would guess it's something a little less deliberate. It could be related to the nightly maintenance or something.

My monitor is failing :(

I have about 5 days to scrape about 20 euro together (I think that's like 25-30$ right now?) to still manage to buy the used 17inch crt monitor (with 1 year warranty). Problem: I won't have any money for at least couple of weeks.

Well, what's wrong with this one, you may ask? Oh not much… it just has colors that are totally off, "failing brightness" (meaning it is getting gradually darker) and couple of other issues.
The more white on screen, the yellower everything looks like. The more black, the more purple/violet tint shows on the edges of every thing. If either white or black dominate the screen for too long, I get odd discolorations lasting a second or two and… since yesterday… the image is getting all wobbly and starts to shake.

I can't work in these conditions :(

Still have about 9 pages in the buffer (so that's 4 and a half week of updates), but I can't make the next story under these conditions.

I'd need to sell at least 5 or 6 sets of sketchbooks to be able to afford a new screen and I even sold one today (which finally got me out of the red in my finances) but I don't know if I'll make it in time :(

Shit, even this field I'm typing my post in right now causes the screen to wobble, too much white.

*goes to sulk in the corner cause he exhausted all the local options of getting money already*

Ugh… a bit of stress at work. Some drunkard went to the bar at the building I was watching… at 3AM!!! He demanded that the door be opened so he can buy drinks, but he was staggardly drunk and refused to budge when I told him that the bar was closed (all bars and other such establishments cannot be open or be serving beer after 2AM, and stores can't be selling the stuff either). I had to call the police to get rid of him and what does he do? He starts fighting the police. He didn't want to leave until he got more drinks from a bar that's closed. Jeez…

Cue the reports and the freely flowing red ink that follows. I hope I don't get called into court as an eyewitness to this guys antics (he tried to kick the cop in the crotch and attempted to kick out the police car window after he was stuffed inside). I hope I never have to do that again anytime soon. T_T

Well We've had an apology and a full explanation now.
It had to do with the programmer copying across the data from the old database (whileit was in use), and errors resulting from things not properly copying across.

It's apparently all over now.

So I thought I would be going to Vancouver to look at campuses for a few days over spring break but I don't know what the heck is happening now, apparently my sister doesn't want me to come? My dad thought maybe he could go with me at some other point, but my mom said NO. Apparently no one cares about my future. :(

And also, by some quirk of fate, a struggle.

I really wish I knew an Irishman or two so I could ask them questions. Trying to figure out what constitutes stereotypical Irish versus obscurely Irish is a real pain in the ass. I mean, obviously 4 leaf clovers, leprechauns, Celtic knot work, pots of gold, that kind of stuff is unsuitable, but I have no idea if stuff like Fin McCool or the Giant's Causeway is too obscure. Hell, just trying to discern the differences between Irish, Scottish and the stuff that is Anglo/Roman influenced is weird. I still can't figure out what the hell the difference between Scottish and Irish bagpipes is. I'm not even touching on sheep for this. That subject is clearly a Welsh thing.

Canadians = Americans - perversion + general politeness + cold tolerance. I don't remember who it was I know who came up with that one, but I do remember that they were themselves a Canadian.

lol! :)

Fin is Scottish as far as I know. His two nephews were turned into Hunting dogs; Bran and Skewlan (?), the finest hunting dogs in the world… Two companions of his are Conan the Bald and Jernit of the love spot. :)

…I got that all from a song/story by John Renbourne ^_^

I remember a story about Fin. It was about this "Salmon of Knowledge" that he helped an old man to catch. To his surprise, the old man told him that while he (the old man) was destined to catch it, Fin would be the guy to eat the thing. And it goes from there I think…

A thread about our local heroic legends…. now that sounds like an interesting thread to create… :)

We already had a thread like that.

Heh.
Wiki reckons Finn is Irish but mentioned in Scottish myth…
All I've heard about him he was in Scottish myth, as a great hero. And the song/story was by Robin Williamson, silly me. He was playing with John Renbourne at the time though.

I think traditionally Irish bagpipes used a foot pump or something,…? Now I can't recall if that was to fill them (instead of blowing in), or if that's to keep the pressure on (instead of squeezing the bag with your elbow).

The Celtic harp is one of the most iconic Irish symbols. And of course Guinness beer or Kilkenny Ale. They're well known but not rubbish cliches like shamrocks and leprechauns.
So you're looking for national symbols? There's their flag, their football/soccer team, Horses (they breed fantastic racehorses), U2, Aer Lingus…

If you want contemporay stuff you could always read a current Irish newspaper online ;)
